Strobe voltage

I tried to search, but couldn't find anything....

Anyone who's been in the buizz long enough has been 'bitten' by a strobe supply.  I know it's the voltage that bites.


What is the voltage that a strobe bulb fires at? Is it higher than 300 volts? Basically looking at it for cable reasons, due to the different ratings of wire and cables.

I was part of a discussion on this awhile ago. Strobes fire between 250-5,000volts. I know that's a broad range. I believe wire rated for 600v is sufficient.

OK.... unlocked this.

I did a search for 'strobe cables' on google. I found several pics where I was able to read the print on the cable from reputable manuf/distributors. The print states 300 volts (which is originally what I thought was the rating). I've been searching for more bulk cable, as my reel is GONE. I was just going by what I 'was told', but never checked into the numbers myself. Thus, I'm thinking I was originally correct with the 300 volts, but 600 would also be adequate.

Whelen factory cables use 600-volt rated cable. I've still got a half a spool of it... somewhere.
