Tennessee eLightbars Tour 2010 set for Aug. 6

We have a smaller group this year. Five participants have registered, but I hope this will still be appreciated by those agencies that will be conducting and guiding our tour of their facilities on August 6.

(It appears that a tour of special law enforcement services may not be as popular as touring Jack Daniel's Distillery, but such is the nature of our participation this year.) Because of the shift from mid-July to August, we may have also lost participation by some members whose kids are returning to school.

Here is a review of Friday activities:

We will meet outside the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Building, 901 R.S. Gass Blvd., Nashville, before 9:00 a.m. Training Director Jim Green will be meeting us.

Following the visit to the TBI, we will visit the Medical Examiner's office at 8:50 R.S. Gass Bld.

Then a short visit to the Tennessee Highway Patrol District Communications and Dispatch center, which is also off R.S. Gass Blvd.at the base of the big tower!

If we proceed out Briley Parkway from Ellington Parkway, I would suggest we eat lunch at one of the restaurants off Music Valley Dr. near the Opryland Hotel There is an Applebee's Grill at the Radisson Hotel at Opryland, 2401 Music Valley Drive, and other eating places, such as a Cracker Barrell Restaurant.

Following lunch, we hope to arrive at the THP Support Services office, 225 Ezell Pike (Behind the THP Offices at 1603 Murfreesboro Road. from approximately 1:30 pm to 2:30 p.m.). We will conclude the tour with a 3:00 p.m. visit to the Nashville International Airport to view an airport fire station and discuss their special public safety operations unique to an international airport.

Hope we have an enjoyable day.

It was a great trip, the medical examiners office was great, got to see an autopsy being preformed, got to see the new cars being outfitted at the THP, very impressive little outfit they have going. They have prisoners doing the installs, one guy builts th consoles and prewires it and puts it in the car, one wires up and installs the lights and radios, then one puts int he radio antennas, another puts in the cages, and so on... they have every detail written down, What colr wire to use, what hooks to what. Very impressive, and the details wre written by an inmate to help his fellow inmates get the process down. It was amazine to see some many lightbars cages and whelen cencoms just sitting in large boxes.....We visited the airport fire/police force and that was a fun place...

whenever i get pics uploaded off of gf's camera im going to have to post the pallets of lightbars. antennae farm, etc.

had a great time. it was good to see everybody again.

Next year we will have to let our east Tennesseeans do the hosting.
