Thorsby, Alabama; Jemison Police Department

Officer Donald Joshua "Josh" Newman

End Of Watch: 03-05-11

Officer Donald Newman, 30, was killed as a result from a vehicle crash. At approximately 1810 hrs., Ofc. Newman was en route to assist an injury accident when he lost control of his cruiser in torrential rains that caused the vehicle to hydroplane, left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole. Officer Donald Joshua Newman was killed upon impact. Brother Josh just wanted to get to the scene where small children were critically injured.

Since a young age, Josh knew how he was meant to Live His Life As Only A Hero Could, so just into his 20's, he joined the United States Air Force. There he served with Faithfulness, Honor and Valor for six years as a Military Police Officer. But there was more he wanted to do. Had to do. He was born with a soul that had courage to wear the badge and immediately after retirement from the AF, Josh followed his next calling. In December of '08, this Warrior joined the Jemison PD as a reserve Officer and he fit right in. This is where he was meant to be and born to do. He continued his path by enrolling in the academy and in April of 2010, was sworn in as a full-time Police Officer with the department. And his Chief and co-workers couldn't have been happier.

Officer Newman wore his uniform with Pride and carried himself through his days with true Blue professionalism. He loved being a Policeman. And it showed. He was so well rounded, even at such a young age. His dedication to his work was unparallel. Professional at all times, he showed respect to not only his superiors but also to his colleagues and to the citizens of Jemison. With his serious look, anyone who knew him knew that under that exterior, he was a super nice guy. People were drawn to Josh seamlessly. His kind and warm demeanor made it hard not to fall in love with him. His work came second only to his devotion to his young family. When not working, his time was spent loving and playing with his "little man". A wife he adored and a son who looked up to his "Super Hero" daddy. The hearts that have been broken are countless. He presence will be missed by all but forgotten by few.

Josh leaves behind his wife Tracy and their four year old son, his mom, brother and sister. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Newman family and to all the Men and Women of the Jemison PD and to all the Patriots of the U.S. Air Force who had the privilege and the pleasure of working along side a true Warrior.

Our Brother, as you now patrol the streets of Heaven, may you continue your vigilant watch over us all as we carry on in the battle ... In Our Brother's Honor. Please take some comfort knowing your family will always be looked after. We Thank You for your service and for your sacrifices. Job Well Done.

Rest In Peace Officer Donald Joshua "Josh" Newman ... We have the watch from here. SALUTE!
