So if many of you remember there was a 5 year old boy named Nathan that lives in Rustburg VA that has cancer, he wants to be a firefighter so hundreds of fire, EMS, and police have visited and sent him packages with cards and patches. Yesterday 2/27/13 me, my 3 year old son, and another firefighter from the volunteer fire department of Brandywine made the 208 mile trip to see him. We brought him a helmet signed by the head command staff of the Prince George's county fire department and the members of Brandywine along with a patch, our moral sticker, a tee shirt, and a very late Christmas card signed by the members. We left the station at 0830 and arrived at his house at about 1315 we have him our gifts and showed off our County car then all the kids played while we spoke with Nathan's mother. We left at around 1430 and attempted to stop at the local fire station but finding the roadway blocked by a tractor trailer we decided to stop at a different one on the way. When we found the North Garden Volunteer fire co. we pulled in and spoke with one of the members who showed us their rigs and posed for some pictures. We finally arrived home at around 1915 driving a total of 432 miles on one tank of gas I might add. All in all it was a great trip and it felt really good to see a smile on a child's face who has dealt with why Nathan has dealt with.
