Unitrol 183K Button assignment

Hello everyone,

I have a Unitrol 183K and this unit has a switch with positions 1, 2, and 3. What functions are typically assigned to these numbers? An Aerodynic is connected to it. For example, is position 1 just rear amber? Is position 2 rotators and steady burn? I’m mainly asking about California standards. Thank you.

I used and installed those a lot. Yes, the slide switch is progressive, so when LVL1 is on then you move to LVL2, LVL1 will also stay on and so forth when you go to LVL3 LVL's 1 & 2 remain on. BUT there is in the back I believe a 2nd LVL2 which will ONLY work without LVL1 or LVL3 on. I used this function on our slick top unit, our red driver's side spotlight we used the spot light switch only, I wired the stand alone LVL2 to a rear flashing red light. we had the lighting set up light CHP, Rear deck, red/amber-blue. The flashing red rear I was able to make traffic stops large trucks, motor homes ect. if they couldn't see my red spot, (and yes, it was dangerous approaching from the front than the rear , I agree) However, all lightbar cars were wired LVL1, LVL2 & LVL3 progressively.

So how about this? LVL 3 is Sirene. Or should the STeady Burn always be on when you operate the Lightbar?

The slide switch in our vehicles operated only the lighting, so in LVL2 our steady red and blue were activated and they stayed on in LVL3. The siren was activated by the toggle switch on your unit.

Oh, I mistook that for the 480K. It says "LVL3 Siren" there. So the Amber Rear Flash was also on when the rotators where on?

You can hook the Siren up to the LVL3 slider BUT it will activate the siren as soon as you turn on LVL3 if that is what you want, we didn't do that in CA, some agencies might have depending on policy.

Thanks. Do you know how i hook up a 480k and a 80K Sirene when i dont want the Sirene activate on LVL3? Do i need an extra switch outside the 480K?

Send a picture of the back of your 183 controller, there should be a hook up there which connects to the toggle switch for your siren.

Oh no sorry yeah its clear for the 183K because it had an Off Switch for the Sirene. But the 480K
doesn´t. Maybe i start a new topic for the 480K Questions :D

There were several plug and play pigtails that usually came with the 80K siren amps that would have had one plug into your 80K cable, the pigtail would then be wired onto the 183K, But it is still doable using the wiring coming out of the amp.
