Firefighters Zbyszewski, Zajac and Wheeler were killed when the vehicle they were driving in crashed, and was quickly overtaken by the Chelan complex wild fire. Four other firefighters were injured, including Daniel Lyon who was injured critically and had to be airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center with severe burns over 60% of his body.
