Hey guys. Quick question.

What would you estimate the value of this vintage siren. Its a PA20A intercepter. It is in good working order.

Thanks guys!

The PA20A series 2E is by far the most common version of Interceptor. There are lots of them out there. It has high-pitched wail and yelp tones like the electronic sirens that are in use today.

If it's in working condition I'd say it'd be worth $50. If it comes with a mounting bracket, wiring harness, and a mic, maybe $75.

Wailer,

Thanks so much for the prompt info!

Without knowing the worth of this exact model i figured id check with the guys who know their s#!t!

;

This isn't mine. A local person wanted to trade it to me. He is asking $200. That is his bottom dollar. There isn't a mic or bracket.

Thanks again bud.

If you do some looking around, you will be able to find one much cheaper.

I agree with Wailer: $50 for a good Interceptor isn't all that bad. And they can be found cheaper. One good source to look at is: Government Surplus Auctions - GovDeals.com. These guys cater to municpalities w/o charging them an arm and a leg like some auction sites, and there's no fee to register or bid. If you got there look under "fire and police equipment".

For a series 2E. 2Es are a dime a dozen.

The PA10, PA20; and PA20A series 2B, 2C, and 2D are worth a lot more. The earlier versions aren't as common as the 2E.

My friend who is a retired vol. fire chief asked me just yesterday why so many Directors were out there moreso than Interceptors...back when both were in service. I had to explain to him that it was because of (a) the cost difference, and ( B) the fact that the Interceptors had the bail bracket and plug in connections, while the early Directors mounted straight to the dash w/o a bracket and had the terminal strips in back. I personally preferred the Directors back then, but have since found some nice-sounding Interceptors, too. Of course, back then I wasn't aware of the different series, like you show here.

Even though series 2E's are the most common, keep in mind that they are the only Federal Interceptor's that are capable of the infamous "in-between" siren tones.

The PA15A series 1B, 1C, and 1D are the only versions with the welded on mounting tabs. All other versions of the Director have a removable mounting bracket like the Interceptor.

The PA150, PA170, PA200, and PA1000 have the same siren oscillator circuit as the PA20A 2E. They can do the 'in-between' tones too.

You just took the words out've my mouth! The PA200 that I ran in my old Crown Vic would "hang" between tones nicely. So do my Directors. Years ago, while on an emergency run I accidentaly hung the PA200 in our Suburban ambulance where it would get the "bark"! Did people ever pull over that!!!!! :D
