Very interesing that they use Volvos as their primary patrol vehicle. They've been using them for years so they must work well for them. Love the freedoms as well!

They also have a few Explorers and Chevy Colorados for code enforcement/traffic control:

I am guessing they dont do pursuits...

Never drove a Volvo XC90, eh?

Up in those mountains, I'd take one of those any day over a typical patrol unit.

Centerville Ohio PD ran Volvo sedans back in the 80's. They were white with all blue Smith & Wesson light bars. Butt ugly, but they must have liked them. They were used for several years. They were the body style below:

I believe the City of Falls Church, VA also used these vehicles for their patrol vehicles.

Volvo is one of the few European automakers which actually has a Police Package line.

UK Emergency Services are very fond of theirs... Nothing beats a V70 T5 ARV when help is direly needed ! ;)

I live in Aspen and we had SAAB 9 series for the longest time. Now it is a mix of Highlander Hybrids and XC90s

When I saw the Vail post, I thought about the Aspen PD Volvo's.

I'm not convinced for one second that utility and safety were the priorities they when decided to get $40,000 Volvo's.

Perhaps it's because the town's - and their chambers of commerce - have had long standing partnerships/sponsorships with Volvo (as Vail used to with Sabb). Volvo is a huge sponsor of many community events in Vail and is also the "official" car of The Town of Vail and Vail Resorts...Believe me, they didn't pay $40,000 for their Volvos. Since Volvo is such a huge sponsor within the Vail community and makes many donations to community organizations, I wouldn't be surprised if they donated them...As for Aspen, I'm sure they got a nice discount.

Falls Church, VA did use Volvos for several years, as did Scarborough, ME. Got the chance to take a "beat run" in one of their Turbo 240's around '86 or so. They were somewhat cramped inside, but handled like they were on rails and hauled ass!!

I like the Push bumpers. Look killer on the Volvo.

I remember when CHP was testing Volvo's back in the early 2000's. Got nailed by one coming home late night. saw the headlamps coming up from behind and didn't think anything of it since it wasn't Crown Vic headlamps. Man was i surpised when they lite up that Vision!ebay1-vi.jpg
