Good Morning everyone,

Not many of you know me, so let me introduce myself. My name is Tim. I live in Bucks County, which is about 15 minutes north of Philadelphia. I have 11 years in the fire service(11 as a volly, and 5 as a career). I am wondering what everyone runs on their box cards(i.e. house fire, building fire). Does your county, or department ect have a set run set-up i.e. 4 engines and a specialty due on a house fire doing the day kind of set-up. I am not trying to start a war, just curious how different counties, states set there assignments up. Below is how our county has ours system set-up:

Day time response:

Fire alarm-1 engine with the option for an addition engine due for day time purpose's

House fire- 4 engines and a specialty(ladder or rescue)

Building fire- 5 engines and 2 specialty

Auto accident with entrappment-1 or 2 engines and 2 rescues, 1 micu

Car fire/ Brush/ fuel spill/ Accident with serious injuries/ -1 or 2 engines depending on the department

Night time response:

All house or building fire's drop an engine off the assignment. All other responses can stay the same if wanted. Some departments keep the day time response of 24/7.

Also what does your deparment due for firefighter Rehab. Pennsylvania is making a big push for firefighter rehab now. Does your department do baseline vital signs once a year? Do you store them somewhere that is easily to be obtained in case of an emergency?

Residential Fire Alarm/ Fire - 2 engines, 1 ladder, 1 EMS, Batt Chief.

Commercial - Above plus additional EMS, Heavy Rescue/ Utility and additional supervisor.

MVC with entrapment - 1 engine, heavy rescue, Supervisor.

All responses 24/7 with Batt chief able to modify. Typically extra Engine and EMS called during hot months (south Florida.)

Rehab is per NFPA recommendations. 2-3 sets of vitals and hydration with cooling in rehab. Yearly MD visits mandatory.

If your looking to make changes, look into OSHA and NFPA for guidance.

Response changes, look into ISO ratings and SOP.

Good Luck!

Be safe

1 ladder (closest)

1-Fire Squad

1-EMS Heavy Rescue Squad

2-ambulances for 1 patient..BLS or ALS

2-ALS Zone cars

1 EMS Chief

assorted and various volunteer first responders going to the scene

For all fire calls in my town, everything goes. We are a small department and generally only get 1-2 guys per vehicle. Once the scene is sized up, mutual aid requests are sent out, depending on the severity of the situation. For Carbon Monoxide alarms, it is common for us to have the chief and another guy outside while a crew of 2 does the search.

EMS runs things on their own. If we need EMS on the scene we call the local squad and when they arrive they have the option to call out for addition EMS squads to come in for support. They also store our vitals, which are done once a year. We have mutual equipment that is shared among the departments (rehab tents, fans) that EMS stores and transports to calls. This equipment is purchased from a fund that the three local towns (mine and two others) contribute to.

In our area the departments set there own boxes with who they want for mutual aid. So even departments BOX is set up totaly different. No consistancy.

example:

My dept(s): For a crash, Engine, Tanker, 1-2 Rescues, 1-2 BLS, 1 ALS. is the usual apparatus for most our calls. Fires: 1 Engine( potentialy 2 if its in our boro, 2 Tankers, 1 Supply Pumper, 1 BLS, 1 Mini Rescue (why i have no clue, they just bring it), and our lovely banana (snorkel) if needed. (we dont have set BOXs, wish we did)

Other depts: 1-2 Engines, 1-2 Tankers, 1 supply, 1 Truck, 1 BLS. 1st alarm. It varies from dept to dept but roughly the same. Most dept try to set it up in a logical manor. (trying not to make it like a parade on scene of a dog shed fire) but theres always 1 dept that has half the area respond for the burnt food calls.

Box Alarms in our area pretty much only pertain to Fires, no boxes for MVC, Rescue, Haz Mat etc.

We are a combination department of primarily volunteer staffing.

Station 34-1: 34-1-75 2006 Pierce Enforcer Engine & 34-1-90 1976 Mack Baker-Aerialscope 75' Tower

Station 34-2: 34-2-75 2006 Pierce Enforcer Engine & 34-2-86 1995 International/Rescue-one Light Truck/Utility

Station 34-3: 34-3-75 2006 Pierce Enforcer Engine & 34-3-76 1995 E-one Engine

Station 34-4: 34-4-75 2006 Pierce Enforcer Engine & 34-4-90 2010 Crimson 105' Tower Ladder

Engine 34-74: 1988 Mack, Paid Crew Mon-Fri 7a-4p

Utility 34-85: 2008 Ford F350 Plumbers body, Paid Mon-Fri 7a-4p for Fire/EMS

Reserve Engine 34-73: 1976 Pierce Engine.

34-66 Chief of Dept 2008 Dodge Durango

34-67 Asst. Chief Dodge Durango

34-6-30 Fire Official/Inspector 2004 Ford Explorer

34-5-98 Fire Police 1990 Dodge Ram Plumbers Body

34-6-32: Spare SUV for Transport to Classes, spare for chiefs/offical. 2004 Ford Explorer

Smoke Conditions, Structure Fires are Genaral Alarms with RIT Crew assigned from Tinton Falls Fire Dept Station 37-2 Wayside Fire Co.

Fire Alarms in Nursing Homes/Hospital/High-rise/educational buildings are General Alarms for All Stations

All other calls are a dual station Dispatch as following:

Call in St 1 Zone: St 1 rolls Engine, St 3 rolls the E-one as its the LDH Truck

Call in St 2 Zone: St 2 rolls Engine, St 4 rolls Ladder

Call in St 3 Zone: St 3 rolls Pierce Engine (setup for scene engine operations), St 1 rolls ladder. If call is for MVA then St 1 rolls engine

Call in St 4 Zone: St 4 rolls Engine, St 2 rolls light truck/utility

For EMS/Lift Assists only the zone company will be assigned and will roll the engine. For MVA with entrapment it is 50/50 on if only scene company is dispatched or both both are dispatched.

All confined space/trench rescue/building collapse is assigned as a regular dispatch plus St 4 as the Rescue Company.

Any call can be upgraded to general alarm at any time as per OIC or dispatch due to lack response. Any call can also be downgraded by OIC at anytime to cancel units prior to/during response. We cannot be canceled by PD/Dispatch, a fire unit has to be on scene before any change in dispatch/response outside of upgrading a response.

For General Alarm Assignments the scene company rolls the engine first, then whatever specialty piece they may have. If outside of zone, St 1 & 4 roll ladders first then engine. St 2 always rolls Engine first, and St 3 rolls E-one first as its the LDH truck for town. On a minimum for all calls you will get An engine, chief, and either another Engine or ladder/utility. If there is manpower available the stations are not restricted from responding with the one piece assigned, they can and will roll both pieces of equipment.

Mutual Aid assignments are on an as needed/requested assignment plus the following. St 1 is automatic for any type of call to Tinton Falls for calls in a Senior Living Center (about 8,000 residents in high-rises), and a outlet store complex. St 2 goes to several surrounding towns for 2nd Alarm+ with the Light/Utility Unit as it has a cascade system. St 3 is on the County Pipeline task force for 5", and is 2nd Alarm assignment for 3 surrounding towns because such. St 4 is RIT team for 4-6 surrounding towns.

St 4 is also on the Twp Special Operation Team which is a joint effort between the FD, OEM, and EMS to provide specialized Rescue. FD provides St 4 and scene companies; OEM provides HazMat Truck (1995 E-one), Special Operations Truck (f-350 light rescue), Command Truck; EMS provides as many ambulances as needed for victims plus 1-2 for Responders & the MAB "the Bus" for rehab now I believe. Spec Ops team covers Confined Space, Building Collapse, High-Angle Rescue, Trench Rescue. So far its only covering our town, but as training progresses we are going to branch out to surrounding towns to provide it. Fort Monmouth Fire Dept used to provide this type of coverage, but will be completely closed this September as the base will be official shut down then. For any response outside of town St 4, Spec Ops truck from OEM and MAB from EMS will respond.

HazMats are controlled by Office of Emergency Management and supported by FD. MVA with Extrication are handled by EMS with support from FD.

Rehab is provided by OEM & EMS with cooling/heating tents, water, food, taking of vital signs. Soon the MAB will be added for rehab as well once it is officially in service.

For Fluid Spills from MVAs OEM is dispatched for anything larger then what the Tow Companies can handle. FD is only dispatched if gasoline, or if car is smoking or on fire.

EMS is separate from FD, but supported by it Mon-Fri 7a-4p as providing 1 FF/EMT to help staff rigs or as requested for assistance. EMS consists of 4 squads with 2 Ambulances Each. Any EMT within town can take on-call car 2008 Charger, has to answer all call within all squads. After 1 request with no response, call goes All-Call and requests all 4 squads. Same goes for after 2 requests with one EMT on the air.

Squad 34-21: 2 Ambulances & 1 Rescue. Rescue responds to all MVAs with overturn/entrapment in town.

Squad 34-22: 2 Ambulances, Pickup towing Gator.

Squad 34-23: 2 Ambulances, Dive/Water Rescue (all water rescues within 5 towns), Suburban Towing ASAP, MAB, Jet Ski

Squad 54-21: 2 Ambulances

That is correct: http://elightbars.org/forums/f34/nj-emergency-medical-services-task-force-shark-river-hills-fas-mab-2-bus-photo-heavy-19164/

For rehab we will be using that as it's heated/cooled, plus OEM with their Rehab trailer which has DRASH tents, heating/cooling units, chairs, tables, stocked coolers of water and gatorade, and snacks. Also have 1-2 BLS crews assigned to monitor vitals. Also have a few probie ffs and cadets assigned to change out bottles of the SCBAs.
