Whelen Whelen CVPI rear deck Talon lights

Hi all,

Am planning on installing a Whelen Talon (R/B) 3rd brake light setup on my 2005 CVPI. As I’m already working on the car and the back seats are out anyway, I was wondering what kind of prep work I could do in the meantime to essentially do a quick “plug-n-play” install once the unit arrives.

There’s a fused power point in my trunk, near the right fender (comes with the Police Prep Package). There’s also a fused accessory/auxiliary wiring harness under the glovebox.

I couldn’t find Whelen’s installation manual for the rear deck Talon lights - can anyone provide me with some information on these? Things I should know beforehand? A wiring diagram would be helpful. I do not know what wires I should run. I was thinking about a 4-in-1 cable harness; POS, NEG, Sync and ScanLock. They’d all run in one clean black line, preventing future spaghetti-buildup. These would then travel to the center console where I have my fusebox.

Make sure you get the Talon sync versions. "Most" of the Talons lacked the sync capability. Otherwise your wiring looked good.

Thanks for the heads up, was able to verify that it is indeed the sync version.

Just to make sure as this is my first "professional" install, can I wire the Talon directly to my amplifier? It's a Code 3 Z3 Matrix amp that's mounted in the trunk if that helps.

I also have a pair of Whelen 500 Linear LED Mirror Beams and two LINZ6 lights in the grille, they all have 18ga wires coming out of them though. Isn't that way too delicate and too thin to run all the way back to the trunk? Should I be using something like 16ga/14ga as my extension cable?
