Hi everyone, I have a question for those who install and service whelen edge lightbars.Yesterday when I was out on a tow my lightbar quit working and I could smell electrical smoke coming from under the truck. I pulled it in this morning and found the ground wires had melted in the junction box. long story short the wires were but spliced together for the short term but now I don't have strobes and the feed wire in the headache rack is hot with on or all brakelights coming on when the switch for the stobes is turned on. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Going to take a shot in the dark here and say the power supply decided to be a dick and shorted out.

Or the junction box got wet inside and shorted out the wires.

Sounds like you have bigger issues if wires are heating up from the brakes being applied. Do you have STT lights in the bar?

Gpc, That is my current train of thought. The strobe power supply shorted or possibly shorted on the junction box in the bar.

Unlisted, that was my starting point. I found that the ground wires were fried. I got them repaired but still no strobes, and yes the bar has the STT in it as well as rear flashers and flood lights.

Might be the power supply fuse? Or if it got hot enough, might've wiped out the fuse & the p/s also?

I've had a few bars come in also with a melted fuse & fuse holder. Sometimes you can get away with just replacing the damaged stuff & have the p/s be OK.

Let me know if you need a p/s, I have quite a few Edge 9000 ones.

Thanks to all who posted.

I went into the bar this afternoon and realized I forgot the barbeque sauce because the wiring harness was fried. The main leads were melted together with wire from the STT light and flood light assemblies as well as the fuse holder for the strobes. The ballast also showed signs of being worn out and over heated.

In other words this bar is toast.

Good news we have a replacement bar on hand, it is a WHELEN liberty 48" bar. However I need a few things. I want to trade even up for 4 amber led modules I have 2 red and 2 blue modules, plus I need 2 strobe elements I'm willing to pay for.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.
