Whelen low power w/ other LEDs

Just wondering if anyone can comment on the whelen flashers like the ulf44 (think that's the right one, 4 channel led flasher) and the low power mode. For general price reasons I can't afford pure whelen all the way around so this unit is driving some axixtech led heads. What I'm wondering is how exactly the low power mode works with 3rd party lighteads. If I remember correctly the older non led units accomplished this by reducing the output voltage but I would think the led units would be quite sensitive to that if the are designed especially for 12v operation.

I haven't tried to use that feature yet but the thought occurred to me and wanted to ask.

Thanks
