Wondering what you guys wear on overnight jobs when it's freezing as balls outside. I was thinking of something like a jumpsuit/coverall, feel like you can get into one fast. But when I think about Nomex, I see oceans of sweat and an IV in my arm upon ED arrival.

Our department provides us with ems and company marked windbreakers that have liners and hoods we can zip in if its practically cold. Ive been known to just grab my turnout coat as-well.

Sounds a bit like a systems jacket - those are pretty nice - I'm thinking more like: it's 3am, I need to bounce, let me snap into something instead of getting redressed.

I wear thermals (same ones I use to go hunting in). Better known as "long johns". If you get the Mil-Spec ones, they will keep you warm. If not, you're hopeless! lol. But seriously, I almost sweat wearing the full get up!

Correct, I'm thinking about this, I think:

Carhartt - Product - Men’s Extremes® Coverall / Arctic Quilt-Lined

Carhartt - Product - Men’s Duck Coverall/Arctic Quilt-Lined

Carhartt - Product - Men’s Duck Coverall/Quilt-Lined

Sanded Duck Coverall | Men's Coveralls | Dickies.com

Duck Insulated Coverall | Men's Coveralls | Dickies.com

Insulated Coverall - Twill | Men's Coveralls | Dickies.com

Morning Pride, Globe, and many others make "turn out" gear for EMS. The Globe stuff is nice. The coat has a liner that can easily and quickly be removed or put back in.

Big fan of the turnout gear but think it's a bit much - I'm going for lazy and effective. 3am call, snap/zip into a jumpsuit and go. Thinking that the Dickie's/Carhartt route is the best. Going to demo a few of them soon and see how they perform.

Our uniform includes the 5.11 Tactical Fleece and the 5.11 Taclite EMS Pants. Something you may want to check into is the 5.11 Taclite EMS Jumpsuit.

Big fan of the 5.11 product, my ambulance corps actually gave us tons of apparel, so I'm more concerned with the quick suit-up than just staying warm in general (all set in that regard). I ruled out the 5.11 jumpsuit a while back, however, doesn't look like it's suitable for colder weather. Let me know if you've had experience to the contrary.

Just throwing this out there... my wife's Godmother and her husband own/operate a local uniform shop. They've done work for some members here who I've referred, like "911," and they've all had positive things to say. They carry 5.11, Blauer, Tru-Spec, Original S.W.A.T., etc. All the fire/EMS/police departments in the area use them. Give them a look, if you don't want to pay the sky high prices at Galls or TheFireStore! They do vinyl, embroidery, you name it.
