Worst Ambulance and Fire Truck Thread:

There's nothing wrong with it I'm sure it's very useful. I just personally don't think it's cosmetically pleasing :haha:
Those are some pretty good 4x4 Engines. They are used by the RAF.

They both still look like spit out UK rejects. I mean cmon, they can't even get the flag on right! :nono:

Let alone the the over done "word" graphics. :duh:

If you're talking about the American flag on the AMR rig, it is on correctly. The union should always be at the front of a moving vehicle.

A Sprinter and a Ducato are totally different vehicles. Made by totally different and unrelated companies.

I fully understand they are completely different vehicles. I was replying to mahemnyc's comment of:

Isn't that coming Stateside as a form of RAM / Dodge variant?

So to me, what I posted are the Dodge "variant" ambulances as mentioned.

I got that they are coming to the US, my comment was more clarifying any misunderstanding that the Ducato and Sprinter are from the same manufacturer.

And if you guys think the Sprinter was a problem, the Ducato, and it's bigger cousin the Iveco Daily which I'd also expect to be sent your way, have REALLY bad reputations here. Personally I'd be wary of both vehicles in critical useage, ie Ambulance. I know a few guys who use both vehicles for package deliveries and the only reason why they still own them is it's cheaper to keep them and write them off on tax then trade out of them. One guy hasn't driven his Iveco in 4 months, it's been in the shop. Upside to that is the cost of the rental he's in is less then the lease payments which he doesn't need to pay while it's in the shop!

I've even been told by both my Fiat van dealers, in Australia the Ducato is sold via a different sales group to the other Fiat vans,to buy a Sprinter!

Yea, those vehicles are expensive to fix too. That's why they really don't make it in the United States because there are much better/cheaper manufacturers like Chevy or Ford.

Sprinters are great a truck once you get past the looks.

Oh yeah, I've seen several in the UK and they have a chunk of more room then our standard US box ambulance. While I prefer the box to the UK version simply because that's what I grew up and learned on, the UK version has its perks.

With that said, I still think this specific ambulance has way to many decals on it.

If you have to be in a type two the sprinter is the way to go. I have worked in flat top vans all the way up to extended cab medium duty ambulances and sprinters are the best vans for room, handling and maintenance. That said, I am a "CPR seat" fan and there is never that option in a van.

Fleet managers like the fuel efficiency, lower cost, and simplicity of type IIs. Everyone else likes the added space and stability of the modular box on types I and III.

IM glad you said it, cuz I might notta been so polite about it. I was on our Depts Honor Guard for 12 years and was the Director of it for 6 years, and there is NOTHING that irritates me more than not displaying our Flag in its proper way. I always say I want to write a form letter that I can send to police and fire depts when I see them wearing a flag on their uniforms and its not done properly. So annoying. Yes there is a left and right flag that should be worn properly on uniform sleeves, it should be displayed as it would fly. If its on the left side the blue field of stars should be to the front, and as its displayed on the right, it too should be to the front, as the flag would fly as you walk. As seen here on this page flag patch - Galls

Some people just dont get it, and in that case, they should not wear the flag on their uniforms without researching it so its done properly

Short of military, I dont think the US Flag should be worn on a uniform.

Where I used to work, I got so many complaints from the veterans because it was on the wrong way. Corporate did not care.

Where I work now, they had to reorder my shirts and they put it on wrong. We ended up going back to our old uniforms anyway.

I see that to a point. Yes Military should DEFINITELY wear it, but think about fire and police. We are somewhat the defenders of the country internally. Now I know some may take that wrong, and I by no means am trying to down play what the military does, I honor and respect what they do 200%. Granted we dont fight and battle like they do, but in a way we do too. Fire and police defend our country from internal threats and some external threats. Anyway, Im gonna talk myself into a hole with some military people so what Im getting at is I think its ok for them to be on police and fire etc. But the mechanic, the shop guy, the guy that picks up the uniforms and rags and rugs, probably not. And NO ONE should EVER wear it if its not going to be displayed properly. If you had them on your uniform and Corporate didnt care, then they shouldnt be on there at all. In my opinion, there are alot of people that dont know proper flag protocol, and its the duty of those of us that do, to show them the right way or make them stop doing it all together.

And Im sure this can be a whole different thread, so didnt mean to :hijack: , so thats all Ill have to say about this, :-x .

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread topic

The way I remember being taught how the Flag should be worn on a shirt is that the field of stars should be worn closest to your heart

Exactly, and when worn as a pin, it should be on the left chest, most wear it on the right because of the badge.

But as a rule of thumb, you are correct, the blue field of stars should always be on the side of the heart of the wearer or viewer. Unless in a church.

On our EMS uniforms, the US flag was always on the left shoulder, with the EMS, EMT, or Paramedic patch on the right. I've seen them reversed, but that's not proper!

while this was intended to be a novelty truck for kids, it still qualifies to be in the wtf category.

Nash Metropolitan tiller anyone?

just to slightly go off topic.. they wouldn't make reversed flag emblem if they weren't proper. most U.S. forces when working with NATO wear a nato flag on the left and a U.S. on the right. Also unit patches are on the left with flages on the right.

military regs say the flag must always be "going forward" because america doesnt retreat... doesnt specify a side. (that i can remember)

no to go back on topic can i borrow the lil fire truck? :)

That's really neat. The Marseallis Park Zoo in Dallas had a little Crosley truck converted to look like a firetruck with the "ladder" part having multiple seats as a kids' ride. It had a red flasher beacon on the roof and a small siren mounted in the center of the hood. Don't know whatever happened to it as it's been over 30 yrs since I've seen it.

i think it might be a Crosely but it looks more like a Nash. anyway, i see this every year at the Delaware county fair parade. last time i checked the light or lights dont work and neither does the siren per legality issues. was a very popular rid at the Catskill Game Farm for decades. until the park closed back in 1996.

You're right, Chris. The one here is a Nash. The one that I mentioned above was a Crosley, but that was in Dallas, TX.

...I can only hope they keep selling the normal pickup-based chassis cab as a Type 1.

Maybe that's what Chrysler is going to use to compete with Ford, since Ford has dropped their vans for Type II use. I've heard that the smaller Ford Transit van will be available for ambulance builds....but they're so tiny!

you're thinking of the Transit Connect and yes those are tiny. they also offer the full size Transit which is roughly the size of a Sprinter and has 3 different wheel base lengths and box heights as well as 3 different engines that fits anyone's needs. i find the 3.2l I-5 power stroke to be interesting...

Now that sounds more like it, Chris.Thanks. I really like those little Transits, and I see them all over the place around here; but I just couldn't see them as an ambulance. But....the Dodge Caravans that were retrofitted with hightops made very nice ambulances. One of the former private ambulance companies had an '83 Caravan conversion that I got to work out of a time or two when they were in business. It had plenty of room considering the small package. They called it "L'il Bit", which was quite appropriate. They've been out of business more than 10 years, but they won't part with the little van.....I've tried that enough times.

never seen a Dodge Caravan ambulance to be honest. but if you need to learn more about the full size transit here is a link: The New 2014 Ford Transit Commercial Van | Innovation In Design & Engineering | Ford.com

Apollo Ambulance Service. I remember those Caravanbulances in Irving when I was a pup. There was even a topic about them here years ago.
