Wouxun Dual Band Radios

Interesting radio. If i had the spare cash, I'd purchase one just to see how it worked. FCC ID is Part 90 certified. Looks like it has a lot of bells and whistles a lot of users want. eBay has them for around $130 with free shipping from sellers here in the US. Also some sellers are including programming cable and programming software for that price. Only down side might be if you need warranty service, does it have to go back to China to be repaired.

I'm not a fan of displays and/or controls on the front. The ones I have with that setup, I've accidentally pressed buttons while seated or bumping something. I much more like top mounted ones.

I have one and love it! The option to have 2 channels on at once is a great feature if you dont want to scan all of the channels. The software is available free on the wouxun site and it uses standard kenwood programming cables and acessories. This radio is great for off duty, light duty, and court but I would not trust it on duty or in a fire by any means. The supplied antenna is flimsy, so I replaced it with a kenwood antenna. It is loaded with features and the price can't be beat. I do know there are places in the US that can repair them, however I do not know where since I have not ran into that problem yet. If there are any particular questions feel free to ask!

I've got one as well. It transmits better than my HT-1000. It's not a bad radio, but there are some problems I have with it. It comes with a white LED on the top to use as a flashlight. It was nice and bright, but only worked 3 or 4 times. It no longer plays well with my computer either. I was able to program it a few times with the computer, but now I have to do it completely from the radio itself. It isn't bad once you get the hang of it, but it's a PITA. My biggest complaint is that I can't program in my FD's repeater into it. It just won't take the frequency. I've contacted Wouxun and they said that this radio doesn't accept that frequency step. But it still works direct. Overall, great radio for the price, but I'll probably sell it since I can't program our repeater. I've also heard you could set up banks on the radio, but mine won't. It's a pain when you have to scroll through 40 channels to get to the one you want.

Overall, I agree with THEFLASH. I keep it at home and in my car, leaving my Dept issued radio in my gear.

not a bad radio to use a toy, i wouldnt trust it in the real world when lives depend on it....

i bought 10 of them for resale awhile back, for $102, to me thats all it was worth....

i noticed after a while all had issue with sensitivity...... also they kept hearing other channels......

2 of them the lcd went out..... and 1 charger went bad... i wound up giving them some used ht 750's as replacements..... the others all the people said, its good to keep as a back up...... and thats what they are doing......

Only Part 90 certified for 136 - 174 and 406 - 470. So if your frequencies are in those ranges you would appear to be good to go.

I have not played with one yet, but am considering getting one to play with. They supposedly will also play on a Moto TRBO system (my main interest), but won't have all of the functionality on TRBO as a Moto radio.

My advise, try it, but make sure you have options for another portable just in case.

We are getting them because of the dual band ability. We need to be able to hear the EMS guys and talk between the 2 , right now we are not taking away our kenwood duty radios and just using these as secondary. We have some comm issues and ths is kinda a band aid till we can get some of the issues fixed......

Got any info on this? Rather interested to know what it can/cannot do on MotoTRBO.

Also whats the pricing on these?

Then you should be good to go. If you wait a while it looks like they are getting ready to release a dual band mobile as well.

I recieved an email about the mobile version! I can't wait to get my hands on one to test it out! It sure would save a lot of space if they get the kinks worked out.
