Just received a beautiful 1967 SaSo Sargent Sowell police/fire/municipal supply catalog today!
257 pages of memories from my earlier collecting days.
During the years my ambulance service operated in Lubbock, we bought a lot from SaSowell; and what was nice was the paint & hardware store where I worked for many years also traded with them, so that helped when I needed things from them.
SaSo was located for many years in Grand Prairie, TX, right on the Arlington/Grand Prairie line, and just down the road from Six Flags. So on a vacation trip to Six Flags in the early '80s I stopped at SaSo....just to visit. There receptionist/switchboard operator for more than 30 years was a sweet lady named Mary Bell Patton. I must've talked to her hundreds of times over the years. Soit was neat getting to meet her in person. Not only that, while I was there, the original owner, A.W. Sowell, just happened to step out onto the sales floor, so I got to meet him as well. He was quite nice and had actually recognized my name when I introduced myself. He and Mary Bell are both gone now, but it was a great place to do business. They were shut down for a time a few years ago, but are up and running again with new owners. I'm now getting their current catalogs, but they don't handle nearly the amount of emergency equipment they once did.
Nice find, Dan!
