Flea market find

$30 at a local flea market, according to a previous post here it’s tow truck beacon light. Do ya think I should put it back in service ??? Would probably be brighter than the code 3 bar I have on it now.

I almost just ignored it thinking it was a boat light but then I thought about it, I don’t know of any boats that use amber.

Nope, not a boat light. "JellyJar" light.

So you fill it with jelly??? What flavor?? Didn't they used to be on old boats on the bow?? Big boats I think more yacht type or motorboats...

I believe boats are just green and red

And grape jelly

Yes that's right, but back in the early to mid 1900's didn't the bows of boats have something that looked like these on them?

Bow lights used red and green fresnel lenses…that’s the way the glass is mounded into the shape you see to intensify and concentrate the light beams. It was invented for light house lanterns to be seen fur out to sea.

dmathieu, do you know what the correct bulb for this is? I’m thinking jr. beacon ray size bulb maybe?

If you want to go Halogen, 795X.

Bear in mind, the colored filters are plastic, and subject to meltin. I'd stick with the 1195 bulb.

I think I may have found some used on a old truck, a little hard to tell for sure if they are the exact same ones

KY State police used jelly jar lights up to 1956 when they started using Federal 17s.

The ones you’ve shown pics of look more like the ones on the fire truck , so many different jelly jar lights out there

I believe the brand on the Kentucky lights was Arguslite.
