Forgive my ignorance, but I'm trying to figure this out:

So, the service got a new truck and to celebrate they have an impromptu parade?

Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corp just dedicated a brand new bus and celebrated by leading a motorcade of ambulances Code 3 through the neighborhood.

I concur. Totally useless and just a major confusion to the general public. Also a great idea to tie up so many ambulances in one area.... PLUS I'd expect a MCI bus for this type of bruhaha...

Want to do a real dedication? Hold a press conference at city hall or the main EMS station.

Taking multiple dedicated peices of apparatus out of service for a parade is a a bad use of resources.... that's true. But since when has that stopped anyone? I believe there is a video floating around here with 130+ pieces of in service fire apparatus in a parade.....

This is confusing the way it's being executed that's for sure though... it's like it's for their own benefit... a parade at least is a way to show the public the shiny trucks they bought you... this just seems like bored people driving ambulances... maybe I'm wrong...

Also the vehicle at 1:12 needs some bulbs and a hubcap....

I agree. Not to mention I think the whole thing is terribly unprofessional... I really hate to say it but it's this type of thing that makes me confused, and then I read the word "Volunteer" on the side of the truck and I go "oh.... Okay. I get it."

:/

Have a press release, and an open house / community day to welcome the public in and show your new equipment. Be proud of what you have and let the public you serve be proud as well.

As a citizen seeing this "dedication", if I did even realize what was going on, I would just be annoyed and think that all EMTs are just in it for the blinks lights and sirens and the holding up of traffic.

I don't know, just my humble opinion.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, you guys are being a bit harsh... it makes perfect sense to me! Having a random code three ambulance only parade through the middle of town without preparing anyone while holding up traffic and locking up every ambulance in the surrounding area with a grid lock of ambulances is the traditional way to dedicate a new ambulance were I come from.

Wait... no... no... that's the opposite of something we'd do. It sucks, too, because volunteers are always fighting to earn the respect they deserve and then people go and do this sorta thing... too bad too, because it's a nice looking truck.

'911, do you need police or fire?'

'Er, I need EMS, my wife is having trouble breathing'

'I'm sorry, sir, EMS is busy having a parade for their new truck and then all the medics are going to sit around it and do things to themselves I'm not comfortable talking about on a recorded line'

'Oh...'

'If yo would like, I can call a wrecker have them load a couch or mattress on the back to take you to the hospital'

I am completely against the whole idea of an impromptu parade, but I do need to explain why this didn't affect anything: There over 8,000,000 ambulance companies and services here...We couldn't get a shortage of EMS even if we wanted to. Wtbysix, I hear your point... :D

Must be nice. In the county I live, we have 6. Not 6 companies, 6 ambulances...

This parade came at the end of the dedication ceremony that was held at the EMS station. There was an open house at the Corp with the politicians doing their thing and then the parade. The parade was scheduled in advance and actually had a police escort (not seen in the video)

Also, there was no problem with coverage. In NYC FDNY EMS covers most calls, the vollys are there to give a helping hand. Like someone else already said, there are a million other buses available for coverage. The last bus on the parade was actually the primary coverage bus, if there had been a call during the short time the ambulances were driving around the community it would have gone off the parade to the call.

Oops! I only meant to post this once, don't have any idea how it got posted twice. Sorry

I think they wanted to remind the residents that they are still around.
You're probably right, that was probably part of the idea.

Most of the sirens sound like Whelens, but I can hear a couple Carsons in the mix too.
