K9 Kody was stabbed to death while attempting to take down a subject while assisting members of the St. Paul Police Department, Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Marshals Service as they served a warrant at a home in the 700 block of Aurora Avenue.


Kody located the subject in the basement of the home but was stabbed several times by the man. Officers then fatally shot the subject.


K9 Kody had served with the St. Paul Police Department for seven years.

Not sure about St. Paul PD in particular but every agency I've ever seen treats their K-9s just like any other LEO. That plus the fact that I tend to like dogs more then some people, god speed Kody. Thoughts to the department and Kody's partner. A K-9 without a handler or a handler without a K-9 is just not a complete officer anymore.

Wow, and just to think that many of us have seen K9 Cody and the St. Paul PD K-9 units on Discovery Channel K9 cops. What a shame!


However, K9 Kody did his job by protecting the LEO's that he was serving with and making the ultimate sacrifice so that everyone else could return to their families. I'm sure Ofc. Longbehn and his family will have a tough time, though, since K9's have a 24/7 relationship with their handlers
