My latest save from the junkyard

Here is my latest save from the junk yard. A mid 80's Code 3 XL9000. The lenses have about 20-30 years of gunk build up on them. I have started to wet sand one lens as a test of my ability.

The first picture is what I have stared with. The left lens is the one I have wet sanded up to 2000 grit, fine cut rubbing compound and a touch of polish. Looking to get some 6000-10000 grit to bring in the clarity.

Now a question. When the motors are running either one will run at a normal speed then slow down to the point of almost stopping. Any advise?

This is light is fairly clean for being on the front of a Syracuse Tele-Squirt all of its life.

Pics Man we need Pics!

As for the motors slowing down.. how are you powering this light..  they tend to slow when not getting enough power..   Make sure nothing is catching or getting hung up and the rotating assemblies can move freely.

Still trying to get the pictures to attach. I has been a while since a posted a topic and pictures.

As far as power I have tried a jump pack and directly touching the terminals on my truck battery when it is running. I am working on it after work slowly. I did notice the inboard rotators have been hitting the metal end cap. mine do not have the rib the was causing you so much trouble.

I did not get the twin to this one that had the rears of the lenses blacked out. I think that truck was sold out of the country.

Thinking of borrowing the blues out of my first light bar from when I first gt in the fire service. A Twinsonic....

Also thought about finding or making some greens for a Christmas light.

Stay tuned there is more to come if I am lucky

Hey, I know those Syracuse bars! The years and placement were NOT good to them. Looks like you got one of the much better ones (you know, that's not held together with scotch tape and missing half a dome).

I will try to et interior pictures soon.

You are correct Doran this one is in good shape considering the life it led both the physical placement and the environment of our weater and streets.

AS requested by Mars Light here are the pictures of the interior of the light. Both sides are pretty clean except for the belt dust and the compressed lens gaskets. Are the gaskets and belts still available? Something else I noticed during the testing was the both sides would rotate well then slow down then resume to the original speed.

To get those lenses crystal clear & looking like new, I really like using the 3M headlight restoration kit. It's usually next to where they sell bondo at the stores, not where the wax & polish is. It fits in your drill & is super easy. Afterwards I put Meguires plastic headlight protectant on it which prevents discoloration. I've restored several FS beacon rays & lightbars with it & havent screwed one up yet!
