NYPD Spotted with Vision SLR

I've pondered that exact question multiple times, why so big, chunky. Why move away from aesthetics to such a rough looking platform from past models. Then it dawned on me. No doubt Fed Sig's single largest client of this bar being NYPD, required a base that would stand high enough that the rotator pods were not obstructed, but was high enough and strong/rigid enough that a Whelen Edge Messenger could be mounted, and not impede the bar's regular functions.

I've not seen one in person, but from looking at the top picture, it certainly appears that whoever did the measuring from the end of the top of the Whelen Messenger to the bottom/start of the Pod's didn't spare much space.....just an observation.

Yes, I believe those mounting brackets are custom designed, because of those stupid TA's on the back. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is changing all of their Vision SL bars to the new SLR, and the mounting feet are much more sleek (they also have the 'hot-foot' option, which is bigger, but still more sleek than the NYPD setup). What I find interesting about both NYPD and LVMPD, is that despite the fact that ANY pod can create ANY color in ANY direction, they are both still using colored domes, making so that particular pod can only be that one color. Not how I would do it, but to each, his own, I guess.

Standard NYPD siren is the SmartSiren.
If the vehicle has any version of the Vision lightbar, it will be sounded by the Smartsiren. If other lightbars are installed, it's likely sounded by the SmartSiren. I'm aware of some unmarked vehicles using the PA650, but they're the exception not the rule.

FWIW, a FedSig rep told me last year that going forward the NYPD SmartSirens would be configured so a constant siren tone could not be latched on without the slide switch being enabled in position 2 or 3

nypd vehicles with vision sl's are using vision controllers

nypd vehicles with vision slr's are using ssp3000

unmarkeds are using ss2000's and pa650-002 nypd spec

thats for the most part......
