I think it is official, an up and coming trend that goes beyond a person driving an old non marked former police vehicle. We are in the age of fully marked and equipped vehicles of individual impersonators and whackers.
It doesn't help. Somehow these vehicles show up used with the paint scheme unaltered. There are a few of them driving around my area with that very obvious paint scheme.

Now that's actually been going on for years. Decades, actually. For a while in the early 2000s it seemed like they were snagging a "cloned" CBP vehicle every few weeks.

Not just CPB trucks, either - this one is actually kinda funny:

And then there are all the fake UPS and FedEx trucks, too. The call of big money is too good for some people to pass up.

Have a look at this winner. He has a tow truck too that's equally as bad, I'll try to get pictures of it sometime.

He's required to have the small diameter dome 4 sealed beam beacon or a least one dominion brand light in Canada.

I love that quantity as a replacement for quality is also a thing in Canada. All that bargain basement scene lighting could probably buy one good set of area lights.

No, and certainly not in this city where there are no freeways and traffic lights every 50 meters.

I like the classic 9M and even the sealed beam is a nice touch, but not together on the same vehicle and certainly not with all that other chinese crap strewn about like cheap Christmas lights. I suspect his towing skills are about on par with his upfitting so that probably explains why he's parked more often than not.

While searching my local Craigslist, I find this unusual Ford Explorer. The ad is now gone but I snagged pics of it. I searched around and found another worse situation with a Raptor in CA. He recently removed the R/B. Not a single comment to discourage this type of activity. This takes whacker to another level. Dare I say beyond the Dewitt threshold.
To be honest with you as a Southern Border guy who patrols the mexican border daily I LOVE IT.
