I started this thread so that you guys can post pictures of your fleet and firehouses. I think it would be cool to see the different types of apparatus we all have, plus it might help when it comes to buying new ones. So I will start it off with my company in Northfield, CT.

Ok so here you go the volunteer fire department of Brandywine or the big FOUR OH

Why is it BS? They create a policy like that then they don't need to worry about privacy concerns. I am sure that exceptions would be made for things like Toys for Tots and other events. But as a general rule were not supposed to be taking photos. Good rule IMHO when we are concerned with privacy and dignity.

Plenty of pics out there on the web that regular citizens have taken of us and our rigs. We do have some "professional" shots that can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/American-Medical-Response-Seattle-WA/221126901234926?sk=photos_stream

The fact that you department wont let you take pictures of your apparatus, even when your not not involved with an alarm, is BS and dare I say, bad PR.

However, this thread is about showing pictures of our big boy toys, so I will digress and try to find a video of my blinkies to show you all. :D

It's actually a C series cab. The C series was built from 1957 to 1966. The CF series cabs came out in 1967 and looked more squared off than the C series.

In case you didn't bother to click the link - it is a private company not a department.

The pics on the link are pretty good themselves. The only thing I would add would be a pic of our blinkies.

My "fire department" is in fact a "fire company". I know all to well the ability of 50+ individuals to bicker for hours and hours during the monthly meeting.

With that said, we love showing off our fleet. We try to have them on the engine bay, going through town, in parades and festivals as much as we can. It helps generate very good PR for us. The little kiddies get to see the big fire truck, the guys get to wish they were one of us, and the girls get something to look at. :D

Ok, maybe only one of those are true... :bonk: However, letting everyone see us out and about, either physically or on the interwebs, lets the population know we actually exist and are there even when were not responding, or bitching about us. :hahano:

But different't areas, different mindsets I suppose.

Just to interject, his pic shows an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance. As you may know, AMR is a large, for-profit corporation, not a 501©3 volunteer company. It's completely apples and oranges.

We do a lot for PR. Our biggest and most visible is Toys for Tots and cancer awareness.

I'll try to snap some photos over the next few days, but here's whats on our web page. Also, they used the same photo for 32 and 33, the only difference between the trucks is the cartoon on the side (all of which were hand painted). 32, 33, and 34 are triplets. 35 & 36 are twins. The title 31 was retired after the "old" 31 was involved in a roll-over MVC that almost killed two of our members (long before my time).

At first glance, the private company policy of not allowing pics seems extreme. But in every group, there is usually one asshat who thinks it is a great idea to post pics of spread-eagled hookers sprawled across the hood, or some other such thing.

Here is a link to our fire districts 3 stations. We are a combination department, and run around 1100 calls a year, both fire and EMS. Our district has both suburban and rural areas, including parts of I-70 and US 75, so we get a very diverse array of calls. We are a first response department in the EMS area with all members being EMT or higher. AMR covers transport in Shawnee county. Every member is required to be FF1, Haz Ops, and EMT, at a minimum. I work as a part time duty officer and cover shifts when our full time guys need vacation or sick days. We are fortunate to be the only true part time department in the county as we are paid by the hour, and not by the call. Excluding Topeka Fire Department, of course as they are a full time department.

97 Engine 3 (former Engine 2), 1995 Freightliner/Smeal, currently OOS from an accident in 2007, is being rebuilt next year as a 2000gal tanker/pumper

97 Brush 8, 1984 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup (was OOS for transmission repairs)

There is also talks of purchase of a UTV, as a local company has purchased a huge portion of land in the western part of our district and has set it up as a pay-to-ride ATV trail. At the moment, we rely on mutual aid and Emergency Management to provide a UTV if needed. The trails opened in November this year and have become VERY popular in a short time...

I love that old big Mack! The Midland Fire Dept. bought two new big Macks like this one in 1959....the only Macks the dept would ever run. They were also the first two rigs in the dept. to run Q sirens...and did they ever get the attention. :p

He does, kinda, but he isn't. He isn't even in the Navy. I dont quite remember where he works, but he is no longer with the department due to moving out of the area. And gladly, the one nuke in the truck cannot be seen behind the wheel...

Ah ok. Being down in SC, we just got a metric fuckton of fresh booters coming in after the holiday standdown. It's amusing to see how they haven't caught on that they can't blend in yet.

Oh I remember it well. Most stick out like a sore thumb. Just gotta head over to the mall, or Best Buy, and there you go, land of the nukes. haha

I can say I blended in pretty well. Along with being down the fire house, I worked down at the Purple Tree Ultra Lounge as a bouncer for Power School & Prototype. I venture to say I am not your average nuke. I shaved my head, put in my earrings and am of considerable build...hence the job. Most instructors wouldnt believe it, and they would get in for free in return for not saying anything. Worked out well. I have to say that was a great job. Made alot of friends and saw alot of interesting stuff. I miss Charleston. Great area, alot of stuff to do any time of the year unlike up here in Connecticut.

Man, there are some badass trucks here, but I gotta say that I love the wolcott and carlisle tandem axle pumpers...I have a hard on for big ass tandem axel tankers (and aerials) on nice custom chassis like pierce arrow/quantum, spartan gladiator, etc.

However, my one beef, and it's the same with a lot of tankers, is that I really think they need to add more perimeter lighting on the side of the tank; usually there's plenty of lighting on the side of the cab, but too often I see only 2 forms of lighting on the side of the tank (a beacon/LED beacon in the top corner towards the rear, and a surface mount by the wheel well)...Personally, I would say a minimum of 3 lights up top and 2 lower down (wheel well level, more or less) on each side of the tank would be ideal for these beasts, and if there's not a lot of room around the wheel wells for lower lighting, they can put 2-3 strip lites, ions, etc over the DOT tape (I've seen e-one and crimson do that a lot, and I personally like that added lighting). These are big trucks and while goin through the intersection, even with a green light, I feel that there's too many gaps in the lighting.
