speed tech lights?

My dual-pro visor light from STL is the same as one featured in the Gall's catalog, and similar to one of Sound-Off's lights. Considerable difference in prices, too. I'm not sure of the retail price of this light from STL, because I bought my as a refurb for $40, but the Gall's unit is $139.

That visor light is not the same one in Gall's catalog, I assure you that. May look similar, which is the reason STL selected it to distribute it, but it's not the same. I'm one of the lucky ones to have purchased an item from STL and not have it fail on them, but if it comes down to STL or ordering from Galls, I'll save the money and order from Galls.

I find it funny, though, that you can save another $20 bucks then buy a Feniex light, have it be brighter and a MUCH better built light, yet people are still saying STL for a budget. If you're really that pressed on a budget and need the lights NOW without wait, then AWL is the way to go. STILL MUCH BETTER lights for that low price. OH, and Tom sells Feniex too!

Well if $20 is a big enough issue to make you go with a lower quality product, value must be your number one priority. If that's the case, a single halogen rotator is still the most light for the money.

I agree. Is your favorite still the Federal Signal Sentry?

I have been trying to find a Code 3 Model 500, which is similar to the Model 550, except that the Model 500 takes a sealed beam bulb. I believe that a Code 3 model 500 with a 4464 sealed beam, at 60 watts, would throw more light than would a Federal Signal Sentry with its H1, at 50 watts. However, I wonder if the dome would hold up to the added heat.

You can get some really good rotators for that price. Specially on here. I've been looking for something to put on my roof for night calls when parked.

But that does seem to be the problem. People are too worried about that $20 bucks the they think they need that light here and now and jump at it. I've learned from that mistake:nono: :duh:

I second the motion on that! When I first got on Ebay several years ago, I really over-extended myself on an old CAM siren that I just had to have. And then the damn thing came in with the rotor housing badly broken.

See that's why I have a problem with Ebay.. Well.. Buying technology off Ebay.. I haven't had any issues so far with stuff I have bought, but haven't bought technology. I really need a new phone, and everyone is telling me to just go on Ebay, and I'm like ehhhhhh. Stuff worries me. I'm a REALLY big fan of Amazon.

My big problem with Ebay in receiving stuff I've bought there is the seller's total misunderstanding of real Ebay policy. Ebay seems to throw a big fit about warning equipment that can be construed as current law enforcement equipment, which they forbid. So you'll see lights shown w/o their red or blue bulbs or lenses in many instances, and the sellers have the idea that they have to disable a light or siren prior to shipping. My point is: How the hell does Ebay know how something is shipped? I bought a nice RotaBeam Corporal off Ebay several years ago that came in with the plug removed from the cord and the bulb also removed. Go figure on that one! Some electronic sirens get through if they're advertised as vintage or antique; but other get nabbed by the "Ebay police". I remember one nice PA200 siren that made it thru the sale but came with the fuse and holder removed and the power cables missing. Didn't take much to get it up and working....it was just the hassle.

Oklahoma City police use STL lights. Well, light. They have one TIR quad dash light in their firearms simulator room. It's hooked up to the simulator computer to provide distractions for the trainees during shooting exercises.

That's good, this way you don't actually blind the trainees......

I'm not really going to try to stick up for Stl but I've had good luck with their stuff. I had a traffic advisor that the controller was wired wrong so I'd advised the traffic to go the opposite way than the button I pushed but they took care of it.

I'm not ems or fire but I work in road construction. Sometimes my lights are on for 8+ hours a day. I've yet to have any one of the 3 items I purchased fail after 2+years of use. I have a company truck now so they. Don't get used much anymore. I'll be doing an install of some other Stl stuff next week when my new company truck comes and as long as I don't get fired or quit I'll keep updating on the quality/durability of my order. Maybe I just got lucky the first time but hey this time around its not my own money so no skin off my back if they fail.

You definitely just got lucky. Keep seeing people buying this stuff and I don't get it. Oh well. All we can do is try to point people in a better direction. If it's lasting for you right now, great. However, I strongly suggest to keep up on the "updating on the quality/durability." Take a peek at Advanced Warning Lights, StrobesnMore, *****************, and Sirennet. AWL and SnM have their own brand of lights that are of great quality, and great price. Also, the Feniex brand is VERY high quality and at much better prices than the Top 3. If you want to save up, SnM and Sirennet can provide you with the "big boy" companies.

ALSO, ALWAYS keep an eye on the classifieds on here. You probably can find anything you need on here for amazing prices. Always seems to be a large amount of amber lighting on here.

Well I already bought the Stl stuff. Well work did. They gave me a budget of $350. I didn't want just a top mount light (mostly cause I can't pull it in my garage with one and also cause I don't like magnet mounts.) that got me the Td-2 and a rear window bar with all mounting items needed. If it craps out I'll just let my boss know that he should either give us a higher budget or take the truck and have someone else do the install.

Like I said I'll snap pics of the install and make a video and update every 6 months or so.

The issue is the cost. It's so cheap everyone out of the know doesn't want to spend the money.

I guy in class asked about some stuff and when I told him how reasonable feniex lights are and asked if they come with a flasher box. Then he said how about led outfitters ect. So that's the hurtle and any time on here will fix that but 5min on Google will prevail.
