Having an issue reinstalling pin

I honestly used a correct diameter cotter pin shoved as far as I could get it in, then slightly bent the end tines so it'd stay seated. I remember the difficulty I had getting the original pin out (used a same diameter finishing nail to pop the old pin) & didn't have the proper tool to reinstall it again. The cotter pin works too!

What’s the recommended size cotter-pin if you recall

I took my gear to a local hardware store and started going through the pins until I found the right size. That'd be the best way to do it.

Looks like a bent roll pin. You need a new straight one. Line up holes and tap in with a small hammer, and punch if needed. Pin is rounded at each end to assist in starting into hole.
Whom ever installed the last one it was already bent, your right it’s just frustrating, if I knew the issue with this bar I would’ve gone a different route yet again it’s a learning experience.

Intallation with hammer and pin punch, and removal with the same, and proper sized punch. Pin should end up flush on both sides when inesalled, not sticking out, so measure for correct length.

You might cold lightly tap it as you roll it with a hammer to straighten it back out. Just not hard enough to alter the diameter. If it seems to tight, use some sandpaper to decrease it's diameter.

@Skulldigger is right, you should be able to correct that with some "persuasion".
You should be able to find these roll pins at just about any hardware store, you will need a hammer or mallet, and punch set to assist with reseating the pin.
