John, Richard hit the nail on the head. It was definitely old parts consisting of the J tubes, four outlet power supplies (ZFO series), 3x4 halogen assemblies and the old 9000 spacers.

Glad they were reused. The custom bar made with the edge frame looks nice too.

Finally doing my additions to the custom lightbar thread. All had customization of some sort by me. Ignore some of the music. It's just to cover/replace all the background noise, I thought the mic on the camera was turned off.

Custom wired the Liberty rear to work off a SS2000SM

Whelen Guardian. 6 400 halogen modules flashed off a ULF2150A. Factory 400 mounts, no fabrication involved.

Whelen Micro Liberty. Not complete, still needs red corner LEDs, endcaps, lens dividers, the lens cut (have them), a Freedom LED flasher to replace the one in there, along with 5mm 500 LEDs for the endcaps and Sound Off LED3s for the front/rear center.

Whelen Mini Liberty. This one is complete. 4 corners, 6 LIN6s, flashed off a ULF44. New lens, with the exception of one used endcap and lens dividers (soon replaced). Mag mount with wiring to control power and pattern on one plug and override and low power momentary on the other. Magnetic mount.

Heres another custom Whelen Responder DX "XL"!

It features 2 rotators, alley lights and a rear work light. I had to move the rotators as far in as possible, which forced me to remove the "V" mirror. I snapped it in half and made a flat mirror. The spot lights are from a star interceptor, they fit perfectly with a bit of shaving to clear the rotators

Well I have a Code 3 Excalibur that I added 6 Federal Signal Solaris Modules to the front and rear. Here are some pictures and videos of the finished product. Let me know what you guys think. I thought it came out pretty well.

Beautiful! I don't much like the flash pattern on the LEDs and I'd rather have the blue in the middle, just for symmetry, but otherwise it's awesome!

Yea i dont like the patterns either but its what I have currently. I have the blue on the one end is because if I want just the rear LEDs on it will only turn on the Red and the blue. I need to find a flasher where I can do this just different patterns and outputs on. That would be great.

Updates:

Replaced the endcaps on the MiniLiberty for ones with non-optic 500s

ai667.photobucket.com_albums_vv36_rwo978_Projects_20Reviews_Custom_20Bars_th_MiniLibertySidenew.jpg

Completed the Micro Liberty. Blue 12LED corners. Amber 5mm 500s in the endcaps. All new lens and endcaps (from the Mini Liberty). I also replaced the flasher with a Freedom flasher. I have a pattern vid, but I haven't uploaded it to youtube. I haven't assembled the mag mount yet, but it'll have a similar setup as the Mini Liberty shown above. I'm planning on selling this one, got in a little deep on some things.

This one is too custom, but its far from stock... LoL

Its an SVP DL-16 in all blue... The factory flasher that was in it shit the bed, so I replaced it with a Whelen ULF-22. Plus I changed how the lights flash... Instead of flashing side to side, it flashes left outters with right center, then right outters with left center... Here's a quick vid...

Heres my Custom built excalibur.

When I bought it, it had 2 red rotators on the ends, alleys and 2 dual D&R electronics brite lites to the front and 2 to the rear.

I removed the red front LEDs, added 2 single talons, I had bags upon bags of new lower level excalibur/360/sabre/interceptor lower level lights, so I added 4 rear work lights, 4 takedowns, modified 4 to house strobe tubes, 2 to the front, 2 to the rear. I tied them into my ricochet which powered 2 in my reverse lights. I also added intersection strobes from an interceptor bar. I left the rear red LEDs in the bar. the bar also came with a sweet console that actually snuggly fit my original switchbox, the console came with a D&R 3 button box aswell as a panel with 3 lighter outlets, one which I wire to my AUX1 switch.

I didnt do that nice of a job hiding the cables and wires in my truck, since I found nasty floor cancer in it, so Im unsure If Ill keep and restore the truck or toss it after plow season. Its a 2003 I paid $700 for...

more pictures of the bar installed. I actually managed to capture some of the strobe flashes! you can see in the rear shot of the truck how I got them hooked in an "X" pattern in the rear, the front is also alternated with the other 2 in the bar, the intersection strobes just do crazy rapid fire.

The Ricochet kit is wired to go into low priority when I put in in reverse, but Ill have to disconnect that since its no longer just reverse lights on the PS, unless tehres a way to program low priority to just power set 1.

Here's the 3 minis I made, all together. The top, smallest one, now has new endcaps and dividers to replace the used, yellowed ones.

And the 3rd, the true micro mini Liberty w/ 4 corners only. It's what I was trying to accomplish with the middle all blue one, but didn't quite get it right. The difference in the two is the middle one has the black inner dummy power supply, while the smallest doesn't have one, it's held together by the corners and lenses only. Filler screws and nylock nuts are in the holes, but there's nothing there except the top plate. Unit is red/blue with LIN12 corners and 5mms in the endcaps and has a ULF28 flasher. Not sure I'm sold on the ULF28, I'll probably change it out for a DPS Freedom corner flasher, or a ULF44. I'll try and get a video when I get a chance.

I've had several requests/questions on measurements for the large minibar, so here's a repost of a PM I sent.

Frame is 22 3/4 in, but you could probably get by with 22 1/2 in, or a tish longer. There's still room to squish the divider foam in more, so 1/4 inch overall, or 1/8 inch on each end isn't going to make a difference for lens length.

Lens sections - 5 inches for the 2 inner sections, 5 11/16 inches for the 2 outer/corner sections.

The top/small one, the frame is 10 3/8 inches and each of the lens sections are 5 inches.

What strobe power supply did you use?

Custom?

If so any place to get diagram and parts to assemble one?

Here is a little project I've been doing. These lights will replace the 3 mini XL's on our reserve fire truck soon that need a total restore. I took 2 full size MX7000's and cut them down to make these. Not bad for a first time project. I guess working at Code 3 building them helped me out a lot. The 2 outboard mini bars have 2 rotators in each and intersection lights. The middle section is 2 center sections built together with 2 rotators total. I had flashers, but the flasher circuit was bad so I left them out. 1 of the standard speed rotators is a bit noisy, but works fine; I'll replace it later.

Here is a custom Whelen Centurion I added six 400 linear LED modules from a mini Responder G9PA using the brackets and flasher from it. I actually had two of these G9PA so I had four brackets as they only have two and needed three. Since the lightbar cannot be seen from the rear I did not need to add any. Yeah it seems like a arrow light to the front, but gives the lightbar the best of both worlds, LED & halogen lights. I think it looks factory original and you would not know it was custom build looking at it as the brackets worked perfectly.

Thanks, I was watching TV the other day and the Responder was on the shelf next to it and thought to myself; "I bet those would fit in the Centruion". So the next morning I found out they did and looks darn good.

Yes Ipuvaepe, that is a M1009 one of two I own, along with a M1010 ambulance.

I don't much like (read: hate with a burning passion) LEDs on an older vehicle, but if you really must, that's the way to do it.

This is one I did for a small, lake-town VFD in 2010. I had sold a bunch of their old equipment for them and had gotten this 3-rotator XL5000 from J. Duke in conjunction for a partial cash-trade for a silver-face PA300. I also had a box of old Code 3 rotator parts I got from a FD north of Fargo for free. There was a bunch of free-form rotators removed from 420 mini-bars, and only two out of the six that were in there were in good shape and had working motors. So, noticing the unused space behind the casacde mirrors, I decided to add rear flashers under the red lenses and rear work lights under the clear lense when working on the back of the truck at night.

The bar had three leads, 1 for the outer rotators, one for the center, and then the ground. I wired the center rotator alongside the outer ones, then added the flashers on the main warning lead with a regular Grote hazard flasher and an in-line 20A fuse. The warning lights and work lights are on their own switches in the cab. The lightbar's main warning is on a relay and the siren and all lights were properly fused according to their current draw when activated. I'm was very happy it turned out good for my first custom job and install (which took a week since I work at Garrison Dam during the summer months from 7 am to 5:30 pm on a 4-10 schedule, so it was all after-hours time to get the truck ready for service). The video can comment on the rest of the install :) .

I built 2 of these for a customer. Its a 2 rotator, 2 strobe, alleys 3 TDs and 3 worklights. I cut the rotator plates to fit the 2 star strobes in, mounted them to the brackets used to mount the rotator plates. Rotators are also Star.
