New York State Police 2012 Chevy Caprices

I have only seen them ride double when they're training rookies...

Are you sure they are black? To me, they seem like a very dark blue.

I have to agree they are an extremely dark blue which I think is one of the 2012 caprice base colors. The car looks like that color especially the #3 photo that is shown on the website policecarwebsite.org in the State Police sections. That photo has a blueish tint to the blackness of the car. I have seen a 2012 Charger NYSP too on an internet image search & that is a dark but blue car:).

Nope they are black, same goes for the 2011 Chargers they have, as I have seen them in person.... They are used for test and evaluation. They do have a few blue older year chargers floating around as well as a few black Impalas. A friend of mine has pics of most and the newer Caprices and Chargers all have Headquarters plates so don't know if they are going to be sent out to the different Troops.

Blue (older model) Charger New York State Police

Black (newer model) Charger New York State Police

Black Impala New York State Police

And finally the Black Caprice New York State Police

No question. They will be BLACK. Past problems with consistency in past years resulted in a custom SP Blue paint from Ford @ approx $900 per car. There is currently no production dark blue color. Since state agencies are in a cost cutting mode, this choice became an easy one. Sources tell me, despite what many consider great features and performance, the NYSP panned the new Ford Police Interceptor with its fuel sipping eco-boost turbo because it's AWD. Concern was reportedly that current pursuit driving methodologies (on high performance RWD sedans) would be compromised and FWD/AWD vehicles require increased maintenance. The new Hemi Charger is impressive but earlier testing (pre-2009 models?) reportedly revealed braking issues. The new 6.1L Chevy's appear to be the Ford CVPI's replacement.

Yea, that's the big problem with the Ford, the AWD, and you cannot get it without. FWD/AWD = Good for consumers but bad for Pursuit.

Troopers double up after 11-00PM. Have for years. It's a contractual. Regardless of when a shift begins, they come back to the barn to double up after 2300 hours.

A little off topic, but I was looking through the photos provided by 10-75.net and found an interesting setup for a Freedom on one the the Tahoes.

New York State Police

Were the NYSP thinking about going with 4 amber modules to the rear in stead of one? The picture shows (Left to Right: red corner, blue, amber, amber, amber, amber, blue, red corner) where as the current setup is (red corner, blue, amber, red, red, blue, red, red corner).

Those are red in the center. That vehicle R-B-A-R-R-A-B-R Most are R-B-A-R-R-B-R-R. The shop will change the mobules around or maybe they will stay like that.

ok ok , im reading alot about what the colors are for the nysp , to answer a few questions , the nysp will be using chevys and dodges untill the mechanics and the higher ups decide on what is the best fit for them . just ,like nypd they use diffrent cars due to recalls and because they have such a large fleet thaey cant pull all the chargers offthe road or caprices or tahoes , and as far as color the caprices are BLUE , just a very dark shade which was ordered on purpose to save money , as well as the charger .. there is no standard color anymore . as far as this information goes if you want to discuss pm away , i work for a "MAJOR" supply company . and all my info is first hand from the state police .. enjoy !

I'm curious... So you have not personally seen and been next to a Caprice, as you said the info you have is from the SP... Correct?

GM originally had no blue for the Caprice, now I see the 2013 model is available with an exclusive to the Caprice color, 'Hugo Blue' which is a near black shade of blue.

I've heard the H209 car on long island so it's out and about being tested.
I've seen one of the new Chargers on the Northway a few months ago. Don't know what the plates were as it was dawn and going in the opposite direction and I was going at a good clip, lol.

How the hell are you gonna sell police cars if you don't offer it in blue? :weird: It's not the most common color, but blue police cars are definitely out there.

I wish ALL PD cars/truck had dual Unitys... My OCD doesn't like the lop-sided-ness of just one spot... lol Plus it just looks mean as hell...

Yes and this is why god created men with longer right arms, so they can use the right side spotlights... LOL ;)

Those Caprices are definitely pre-2013....

Anyone else think the lightbars need adjustable feet? They are tipped downward to much IMO.

Saw one of the Caprices today, looks pretty sharp, it was heading towards G hq.

In reference to the earlier comments, the State Police do pair up from 2300-0500. The black vehicles that they have are either demonstrators, test cars or were not offered in black. The 2013 Caprice is available in NYSP blue should they chose to buy it. The NY State Police have not made a decision in regards to what vehicle will replace the Crown Victoria, a decision should be reached by August.

Here are a few other test vehicles that are on the road or are about to hit the road soon.

Yea now, but the first batches were black, all three car manufacturers. The new batch of Caprices are blue, I'm sure which ever vehicle manufacturer the NYSP goes with they will have a blue made up for the vehicles.

I think the only new vehicles that are blue are the newer Caprices, while I think everything else is still black.

I'm really digging some of these test units! I've never seen anything other than the NYSP CVPI and Tahoes, so these are definitely exciting!
