What Is Your "Holy Grail" Item?

But speaking of that, what would be harder to find - a Mars Aurora Borealis light bar or 1971-1972 Ford sedan or hardtop in restorable condition?

I think both  . And it'll require lots of cash to get a project like that off the ground....(sighs) Oh, well, keep dreaming I suppose... ;)

I was wondering when Pimp would show of his "Sugarland Express" shots !

I already got my complete Premium Vision system...

...so now I'm thinking LAPD all-light Aerodynic.

Or one of those Aurora Borealis from Mars would be cool.

You know... I've been giving this some more thought.

Yes my restoration project is a great item, to me, but I think a more suitable "Holy Grail" item would be something that I can't find.

I've been searching for the original license plate number for my car since I started researching but no one can seem to give me that info as the paperwork no longer exists. I'm thinking about taking a trip to VA sometime after the New Year to visit the VASP Museum and an old friend. My last hope will be going to the DMV and see if they still have those records. The DMV issued the plate numbers to all VASP cars, and still does.

The "Ultimate Holy Grail" would be locating the original plate that might still exist. VSP used to offer one of the plates to the officer if they wanted it.

Just completed a trade deal to get a Whelen WS-224. Saw a listing on fleaBay for one and messaged the seller. We just finished "negotiations" and will both be shipping tomorrow. So, as long as everything works out, that's one off my list, all that's left is a GE PowerCall and a Federal PA-5. Those will obviously prove harder to get, though I may have a lead on a PowerCall sitting un-used at a local FD....

For me it would be a NOS in the box Twinsonic 12X with blue domes or a NOS Aerodynic also with blue domes...

I approve this post.

The adrenaline release today at 11:05 est was intense. I bought a Mars bar off the bay, it's a little rough, but I plan on restoring it within reason. I can't wait to get her.

For a long time I looked/wanted a Unity RV-26 with a RED Spitfire Dome. I considered it a had to find item, at least 1 in good condition that I didn't have to pay through the nose or other body openings for.

I finally found this 1, NEW OLD STOCK!, and didn't have to sell of any body parts for it!

I know others would think that its not that rare, but for me to find one in this condition, was a real find!

WOW, NOS RV-26 ?? I'd say that could be one of my Holy Grail lights......

Darth Vader light, it seems a lot more enjoyable to have sit on a shelf than the equivalent in just red or blue.

Yes that's the one. I'm trying to figure out what the base should look like. Ive seen chrome or black bases. Plus the metal tag is rough but I only see sticker looking tags so I have my work cut out.

Congrats on your purchase. I thought it looked like an early version since it had a stamped tag. Also I initially thought the base was really corroded but then realized looking at the pics it was actually painted with a crinkle finish. That has to be original. Possibly an early "economy" version.

Is the FS Beacon Ray series... 17, 173, 174, 175 (I already have a 176). A Twinsonic or 6 would be great to have in the collection as well.

You guys find some great stuff on here! Maybe one day, I shall be so lucky. The gub'ment salary just doesn't cut it sometimes. :(

That or a whelen 6000

Some of my "Holy Grails" may be a little more mundane than some, others just as desireable;

Beacons:

- Whelen 5000-PA w/red dome (Pennsylvania State Police style)

- Whelen 5200-PA w/red dome (Pennsylvania State Police style - actually have one coming soon)

- Whelen 5300-PA w/blue dome (Kentucky State Police style)

Lightbars:

- Whelen Model 6000 Strobe bar (Worcester, MA Police style)

- Whelen Model 3800 w/blue beacon dome/PAR46 heads w/both Commander 5000 and 5200 (Connecticut State Police style)

- Whelen Model 3200 w/blue strobes and Dietz 7-11 beacon, w/clear dome and blue/white PAR36 bulbs (my PDs old setup)

Ultimate Fantasy Cars:

- Restored 1972 Ford Custom, Massachusetts State Police (already have the proper lights/siren/radio equipment)

- Restored 1976 Plymouth Gran Fury, Massachusetts State Police (already have the proper lights/siren/radio equipment)

- Restored 1976 Plymouth Gran Fury, Virginia State Police (w/FS 184 Power Light)

- Restored 1976 Plymouth Gran Fury, Bolton, MA PD (w/Whelen Model 3200 combination and Dietz 7-11 beacon)

- Restored 1977 Plymouth Gran Fury, Pennsylvania State Police (w/Whelen 5000-PA)

- Restored 1978 Ford LTD, Massachusetts State Police (already have the proper lights/siren/radio equipment)

- Restored 1988 Chevrolet Caprice, Pennsylvania State Police (w/Whelen 5200-PA)

Obviously I have neither the time, money, space or talent to own or restore any of these... but this IS a "fantasy" thread so a guy can dream!! :D

Five-O Emergency Light(s). I needed 2 of them to complete my two 1989 Minnesota State Patrol Mustang SSPs. Thanks to persistent searching on the web (for 6 months) I found 1 NOS and 1 mint used (in the solid red lens that I needed).

Man those suckers get hot! My dad had one in his Jeep Cherokee squad car. Removed the pass. side visor and hung it upside down. had to drill two vent holes in the top of the housing to vent it some. I've got a brand new in the box bulb for one if you ever need it.

I can see how those contained halogen lamps would generate a lot of heat. Luckily mine will only see car show duty and be turned on less than a minute at a time. I'll take you up on the extra bulb offer (never know when one might go out). PM with details on how to get it. Thanks!

P.S. I will trade a GE Powercall for the above in above average condition!!

I just happen to have a Sireno Projector model. It's in storage, so I'll have to dig it out. It worked fine before I put it up.

Yes! Anything that oscillates. Seems like J.C. Whitney used to sell a 4 bulb oscillator long ago. It looked like the typical Sireno beacon shape.

I have a very nice, fully refurbished Mars 888 with clear lens and one of the high-powered red sealed beams. It is awesome. But years ago the volunteer group I worked with had an old '60 Chevy wagon ambulance that we used at the racetrack. When we put the old vehicle together, I had come across an old 6-volt Mars DL8 "figure-eight" light: the forerunner of the 888! We removed the old 6-volt bulb and replaced it with a 1019 bulb, as used in the junior beacons. That light went on the center front of the roof and was flanked with a pair of red Carpenter single-faced flashing lights, with a 17 beacon in the rear. Despite being a 6-volt light, we used that old DL8 for many years and it never hurt that 6-volt motor. But I guarantee, with that big jr. beacon bulb in place, that light was awesome! One Saturday night we happened to be transporting "hot" to the hospital when suddenly a Sheriff's cruiser pulled in front and decided to escort us. That deputy took off like a jet plane and it was all we could do to keep up! Once we got to the E.R. and unloaded our patient I went back outside and thanked the deputy (who it turned out to be one of my best friend's dad) for the escort. He chuckled and said that we didn't need him after all because that blasted "wobbly" light was so bright that he almost had to turn his rearview mirror backwards! "Nuff said.

My "holy grail" item is a B&M Super Chief siren. They are absolutely the most awesome mechanical siren out there. We had one once on an old Olds ambulance back in the '70s, and it's the only siren I've ever run that hurt my ears! Not even a Q bothers me. :D

Where on gods green earth do you find a NOS CTS Twinsonic? I mean...really??

FYI and for anyone interested, Chief Barry McRoy in Colleton Co., S.C. has a ton of used lightbars for sale: Federal, Whelen, Code 3, Mars, etc. All shapes, sizes and colors. He also has a number of good used Interceptors and Directors for $75 + shipping. Email him at: barimac@gmail.com.

Maybe for me a California Highway Patrol FS Vision... NOS... I tried to build one once but gave up after not being able to find all the filter combos I'd need.
