Will lenses and internal light components from a Whelen Edge Ultra light bar fit in the frame of an Edge 9M light bar?

I tried this many years ago and can say for certain that you have to modify extended corner modules to make them fit. Check this out:

I have just gone through some of this myself. I'll answer the questions I can.

I believe so. However, you can't get modular corner modules to mount in an Edge 9000 frame extrusion without first cutting/grinding off the lower inner mounting tab. It does not slide into the extrusion, as there is no channel for it:

Ultra frames are 2" larger in the front-to-back dimension. Edge 9000 frame extrusions lack the mounting channel for the modular corner modules as pictured above.

- What is the correct name for the additional mounting pieces I will need to hold the 400/700 series LED heads in place?
When I purchased some over the last few months, I used the word "standoff" in my wanted thread and had several people understand what I meant. There are some by that name for sale in the classifieds currently.

Yes, and there are no special mounts. In fact, the 9M uses 400-series halogens for alley lights. Ultra and 9M endcaps have clips and bosses designed to retain 400-series lightheads.

Good info @shues .

The tabs extra corner module tabs will snap cleanly off if you grip then with a good pair of pliers. I score them with a utility knife first and they break off clean. I think the purpose of the ultra was to get ready for LEDs, not knowing how much rear heat fins they may have etc. I can't be sure the real reason behind it. If you look at the early "linear LEDs" they might benefit from an inner track if used in an edge (they really weren't).

But short answer; like @shues said, going from ultra to 9M/9000 is no big deal with minor corner module modification.

You might feel like some parts sit too close to the lens, but compare them to the parts meant for the 9000 and 9M and they don't. The Ultra really just had two mounting tracks instead on one, the inner one being too far towards the center for some parts anyway.

The truth of the matter is the outer mounting track on the ultra puts components in the same place as the only track on the 9M / 9000. Some parts aren't even mounted in the inner track of the ultra. You lose a second inner mounting track that you don't need. You will be cutting tabs on corner mods, that's pretty much it.
