I will never understand why some EMS/fire agencies go with vehicles that look like LEO vehicles.

If this was an admin takehome vehicle (ie chief's dept issued vehicle), I could see them having an unmarked slicktop, ie white unmarked NGPI/Utility, but an all-black slicktop with a PB for an ALS flycar is a bit over the top IMO

They have a black Tahoe and this. They story given was that "they ordered white vehicles but were mistakenly delivered black." "It would be too costly to fix it so they are leaving them the way they are."

To me it sounds like a load of crap and I'm sure someone will throw a stink in one of the towns they serve, I know I would....

Also the 6 IONs on the pushbumper is kinda stupid as they aren't all level.

My third service EMS department has a slick top all white SUV with the ability to have the warning equipment disabled.  It is used by non-certified office staff sometimes and a take home for an administrator many days.  I would love to get some magnets for the doors so we can use it as a backup to our fully marked SUV.  That said, the previous vehicle was a black (ex sheriff) CVPI with full EMS graphics complete with orange stripe and red exterior domes on a full lightbar.  That thing got the "oh crap a cop" response from people way too much.  So my point is, I agree the color is more the problem than the slick top status in many cases.  I will concede however that EMS vehicles should be marked when used primarily for emergency response.

My whole thing is FD and EMS vehicles should be white, red, or any color other than something dark. They should have fully visible graphics (no ghost graphics), and have a lightbar. Now on the other hand Dept. Chiefs (primarily career depts) I am ok with having fully unmarked vehicles like you see a lot of in MA. This is all IMHO.

One of my favorite emergency organizations, the Harris Co. Emergency Corps.  They made very good time in getting from Houston to Lubbock in May, 1970, when Lubbock was hit with a huge F5 tornado. That was on May 11, and by the mid-morning of the 12th they were in Lubbock with two units.  My REACT team was instantly mobilized and we had the use of a borrowed ambulance that belonged to a local dealer.  The ambulance was a '64 Olds wagon that was fully decked out. The dealer followed us in a '67 lwb Olds combination.  They set us up at the Lubbock Coliseum which was set up as a refugee center after we came in from Lubbock Muni with cases and cases of whole blood that had been airlifted to Lubbock. My partner Rick and I made national TV on all three networks while we were at the airport loading all that blood into the ambulance.  Hard to believe that was 44 years ago.

I agree that EMS units should be white or red or something reasonable but not black.  I used to  gripe back in the "old days" when funeral homes operated the ambulance services.  It was one thing for them to use a black combination as a backup ambulance when necessary, but an entirely different matter when their first out ambulances were also black, just to match the company's color scheme.  That being said, I totally freaked when I saw a pink 1965 Pontiac Consort ambulance at the small funeral home in Tahoka, TX.  When the funeral home sold not long after that the Consort and their '66 Cadillac combo which was also pink were both painted white over a silver-gray.   The last black ambulance I saw was in 1973 in Lewisville, TX, and it was a '64 Chevy station wagon ambulance that was also a funeral home-based rig.

Of course you can go to the other extreme, too.  In the mid'70s, the Lovington (NM) Fire Dept's first ambulance was a lime-green Type III ambulance. Yechhhhh!(but at least you could see it).

That does sound like a load of crap lol. If they truly ordered white SUVs then it should've been the dealer's responsibility to get them what they ordered; I don't see how it'd be costly for the agency/customer

+1. Same thing down here in FL. My dept (fully career) has unmarked/slicktop white 2013 explorers & 2012 expeditions for all the chief takehome vehicles and for other admin vehicles (ie for the training captains to use). Nobody pays much attention to them or tries to flag them down (since they don't look like emergency vehicles) but they light up easily if/when they're needed to respond (which they rarely do, hence why I don't think an exterior lightbar is needed).

I'm not saying that all EMS SUVs/flycars have to be white (since we all know that some cities have funky colors for their fire and LE vehicles), but I 100% think that the purpose of an EMS duty vehicle should be obvious; a star of life and word like "rescue" or "emergency medical services" should be clearly displayed on the sides & rear IMO

Any idea on the build on the Mohawk ambulance?  Looks like either a Crestline or Demers.

It's a Demers, all of their buses are pretty much the same as this other then a few boxes that they bought used.

Nice!   I'm beginning to see pix of Demers ambulances in this country here and there, but haven't seen the "real McCoy" yet.   Crestline builds some nice stuff too that they export to the U.S.  Their former owner Peter Adsten is a good friend of mine.

I love that pretty red Suburban, too, by the way!

Demers has been in the country since the 90s. Also what Suburban?
The red Schenectady Suburban.    I just like Suburbans. We used them as ambulances for many years.  Our last was a '70 high top that was stolen and has never turned up.  I still have the title to it, so I think it went across the border.

Are those t-Rex lightheads in the Shaker Road-Loudonville Expedition grills and mirrors?

The grill lights look stupid there (when that grill has so much space to mount them higher up in a more effective location, and the wannabe mirrorbeams look funny). On the other hand, graphics are great.

I wish that your area would move away from being big on code 3 and move (overall) more towards whelen, FedSig, or SOS

The cheap installer around here is a Code3 dealer, so unfortunately departments will probably stay.

I hate the use of smaller lightheads like linz6 on super duty grills. I wish all those WMD units would be consistent across the board and have 2 600s/700s in the grill. Also looks like the 1st & 3rd super duty could borrow some of the 50 600s/700s on the sat comms truck to beef up their perimeter warning.

As for the WMD ambo, that just looks hideous with the blue rims and stupid warning light selection up top.

I know that a lot of the gov vehicles like to be unmarked, but I think a basic reflective striping around the body (whether it's white, blue, or a ghost reflective that blends in with the color of the truck) would be nice to have for added safety

I'm not usually a fan of lime yellow ambulances, but the Rural/Metro design actually looks pretty sharp! Keep the great photos coming. I love seeing your updates.

Just curious to know how well Rural-Metro is doing up your way.  It seems like they're losing ground in most places where they have services located.   I agree with Tony. I don't care for the lime green but they do look sharp.  The red and white colors on the RPI unit don't jump out at you, but I like the looks of it much more.

I have no clue, I'm not in their response area in NY. I am in Albany. They have to city contract for Syracuse, that's all I can tell you.

R-M was in Big Spring, TX,   a small town just east of us for a few years, but there were problems with them, so out they went and now Big Spring FD has the EMS.  Ditto on Abilene, where they took over from the original ambulance operator several years ago. They went out and now it's a company called Metro Care, operated by a longtime PCS member.

I really dislike the location and mounting of the horns and siren speaker on ETA75; I think it's a cheap/lazy choice and leaves them in an easily exposed/damage-prone location. Horns mounted over each front wheel and an international-specific siren speaker on the bumper would've been better.

PS Im sorry if anyone here's a member there, but I think Western Turnpike is a cheesy name for a rescue squad. Something like Town of Guilderland Rescue Squad, Guilderland Rescue District #__, etc when they established in way back when would've sounded less like a construction company
