Video is forthcoming but I did another department members POV today and it took way longer then expected. Sorry but no pics from that either.

No offense, the grille lights look goofy on the outside...is there any way you can mount it on the inside of the grille?

I thought about it, but decided I like the look, especially with the red lenses on there. Also, being linear lights I wanted to maximize their potential for warning. That's also the reason they're mounted so far to the sides where the grill curves a bit to the outsides.

acala91 said:
I'd keep them outside to take advantage of the off axis warning they give.

Exactly!

Looks good bro... Now you need some 700s for the upper grill... lol

Sure, you gonna donate them to me?

Ya know what you two... lol Here's proof that they are actually 600 and 700 lightheads and not just lenses... This was taken the day I put them in the grill... And before you ask, no I haven't gotten them hooked up to the flasher... I've been down for the past 2+ days with a crazy bad headache that wouldn't go away...

Oh, and before anyone gets up in arms about pattern selection and/or sync I've got a ULF44 on the way!

Very nice. Love the colored lenses.

I had the option to go clear, but I thought the red looked better. Just lucky chance that I had they laying around.

I say now that you have the 600s in the grill you should move the lights on the hood to an intersection bracket.

I'm going to use the old grill lights on an intersection bracket I think.

So, I'm still waiting on my ULF44 to come in. For now I have steady-burn mirror beams...

In the mean time, I've begun to disassemble the Venom so I can hook up each side of it to the ULF44. I consulted with Tom last night and he said there wasn't an "easy" way to do this and he was right. But I'm determined to get my whole light package to do what I want.

We should talk about upgrading you out of that thing and into a pegasus without a flasher to get that truck doing what you want.

We'll see. For now the re-wire of the venom is actually going pretty well.

So, I spent the better part of today rewiring the AWL Venom. I removed the internal flasher and hardwired everything so I can use the ULF44 that I'm expecting. When I decided to undertake this project, I contacted Tom and asked for any input he may have. Here is his reply:

Tom said:
Greg,

To use an external flasher, you would need to basically bypass the flasher by making 10-outputs for each module (making them steady burn). It's not recommended since it would void the warranty and would frankly be a lot of work. Hope this helps

Tom

When he said it would be a lot of work, he wasn't kidding. These units are really not designed to be modification friendly.

I ended up opening up the thing and pretty much started cutting wires until I had each head on its own. Then I grouped the three outside heads together and the two inside heads together. I did this with each side. After cleaning up the wiring and making sure everything was protected, I put it all back together and I now have a total of 4 inputs, two for each side which will still give me multiple options for flash patterns.

Inside of the unit after I cut the wires.

The internal flasher (which I'm pretty sure is negative switched)

All the positive leads soldered to one spot on the flasher

My wiring all cleaned up and secured.

Finished product (the exposed wires will be covered once I figure out exactly how they're going to be run)

So for sync, I'm thinking of the right half of the Venom, left mirror beam, left hood light, and right grill light alternating with their opposites. What do you guys think?

Make it a Z to be cool. Right venom, left mirror, right hood and left grill!

Thanks for posting this because I am in the process of doing it myself with a Venom to use a Ulf44 so I can be sync cool.

To do the Venom, it was a lot of work but I think it'll be worth it in the end. The other option I discussed was ordering a Feniex Pegasus without a flasher but since I already had the venom, I decided to just re-wire it.

Yes, I talked to him about getting him pototype interior bar, however; we have come up with a plan to spend a considerable load of cash on developing a new 54 inch lightbar. Stay tuned.

I thought about it, and as much as I wanted to, I just can't swing the funds right now so I decided to make due with what I have. Plus, I enjoyed the challenge of modifying my current equipment to better fit my needs.

That has me thinking. How hard it is to wire to an external flasher? Same price without a flasher?

Not hard at all..done it on several cars and was doing it for my patrol car to have total car sync (all red flashes on driver side then all blue on passenger side) My car was an expensive project but... the pegasus part is more reasonable.

Should be noted that this is a version1 Venom, or from the Damega days.

Thanks Tom. I'm glad to hear that the current generation of Venoms isn't like this. That was a bit... unnerving to find. To be fair however, I never had a single issue with it.

So, my ULF-44 is still MIA, I'm blaming FedEx at this point.

In the mean time, I've upgraded the alternator to a 170 amp output one and I'm about 50% of the way to having my 28 installed! Be jealous... be VERY jealous!

By 28 are you talking about a Federal model 28 siren? Casuse if you are that is awesome and funny because I have been pondering installing mind on my truck.

Yes indeed. A Federal Sign & Signal Corporation Model 28 siren!

And what is this? A 100 amp circuit breaker and a continuous duty solenoid?

[Broken External Image]:http://70.38.64.76/h/1/3a6e7610-2dec-4863-b7ce-f9584ffca1a9.JPG

Indeed, that's definitely a Cole-Hersee solenoid!
