New Company: Feniex

Please disregard my previous post. The images did appear after I made that post. Unfortunately, the edit feature appears to be MIA, so I couldn't correct that error without generating another post.

you cant edit your post in the ring. its one of the lil ol rules for it. lol

WAY TO GO UNLISTED! That touch screen control looks BAD ASSSS!

NO credit needs to be given to me, I was only reading the thread- and noticed someone else mentioned Havis had photos up. I just happened to be the first to link the photos here ;)

Emergency, pursuit and code 3... is that like level 1, 2 and 3 lighting?

i agree, really nice, i wonder how much it will cost... :?:

Aint it the same thing? I have seen switches for code 3 labeled all three (emergency, pursuit, and code 3).

I'd assume you could program them to have any name you want, like "Warp Factor 9" or somesuch. What I want to know is if it will stand up to spilled drinks and other everyday occurrences.

Mine would be "To Infinity...and BEYOND!!!!!"

I nominate myself for product testing... more so if that has a built in AM/FM/CD/GPS/DVD player...

While I am careful and have never spilt anything on any of my equipment I have to agree. Will it stand up to heat as well?

Odds are that a touchpad will hold up better than conventional switches, sliders and knobs - they'll need fewer gaskets and have less opening for liquids, dust or contaminants to infiltrate.

Forgot to mention - most modern aircraft are going to "glass" cockpits with the majority of the instruments and switches being touchscreen. So the technology can be made to meet FAA and milspec standards, even though it would probably be overkill and cost-ineffective for emergency equipment controls on the average.

Ok so I just got back from the dqallas show and hot to see and touch the new products. 8 have to say they are pretty damn bright.

The touch screen system is simply a windows based software with touch screen... think the smart siren system. However there is quite a bit of unique programming features like having the ability to have all white front lighting... including grille to be able to go to steady burn take down mode.

I have pics and will update once I get home to a computer. I was pretty impressed on first impressions.. very small light heads, with 4 diodes per head.

They have led inserts that are very bright. And they resemble vertexes.

They said they will have all colors available and they had RABCG flashing and on the truck. I was pretty impressed... now the durabilty is something to be tested but on first impression I would have to say I'm impressed.

DAYUM. haha. not too shabby, wish someone was there with a real camera to catch some more detailed pics.

So far I don't see anything really new...

I'd love to try out the touch screen controller! I wonder what the damage is price-wise though.

The guys working the booth... who were all of arab decent (not that it matters but it has been brought up previously) they jumped on anybody that walked up to the booth like sharks on chum.

I believe HILO was going today with a camera

Maybe their prices will make up for their lack of creativity!

They look pretty creative to me.

Does anyone who went to the show know when they will start selling there products? How about the lights? were they bright or just the norm?

Yes they were bright... the led a ways were very bright. Only the 2nd ones I've been impressed by, witht he whelen universal lAW being first.

The heads are less than a quarter tall. I honestly say I like the way they look and will probably buy some for test and eval purposes.

No word on exactly when... "late fall" is what I keep getting

Out of the ring I see.

Doesn't look that shabby - not worth the fanfare but they do look like decent lights. If they had a full line of rotating LED lights (small dash light, midsize beacon, mini bar, single and dual-level lightbar) THEN that would be worth the fanfare - rotating LEDs are almost unheard of.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm not sure I would want a touch screen controller. I like being able to know exactly where every button is because I can feel it. I don't even have to take my eyes off the road to change siren tones. It also gives you something to physically feel when going down a bumpy road. I can see someone responding on a bumpy road, go to hit a button, hit the wrong one and have all their lights turn off in an intersection. Just my opinion though. Regardless, it looks sharp and is up there on the "cool" factor, but not so much for the "practicality".

Amen. Steering wheel controls are the future!

The touch screen thing is too dangerous which is why another company hasn't introduced it yet.

Feniex, no webpage yet? Whats up that? This company is already a joke imo

Actually federal signal came out with touch screen aps a while ago.... integrated right into what ever computer you use as and MDT

Again, tons of aircraft have "touch screens." I would probably want tactile feedback for some things - there will never be a touchscreen control that replaces throttle and pitch levers. I'll bet that there will be someway to either mimic physical switches or lock certain features against inadvertent change.

I don't know where Feniex is designing or making their stuff, but I'd hope that any manufacturer, including the big ones, are mounting their prototypes in cars and spending hundreds of hours with different drivers at places like the Transportation Research Center or the road courses, having them just cycling through different switch positions and combinations while driving the track, seeing if they are actually usable. Stuff that looks great at a trade show and actually functions fine may turn into crap when an actual human has to use it at speed. Some of it is just confusing without a lot of time and experience - I'm still trying to learn paddle shifters.

If I understand it correctly, the NexGen Ford PI has unused buttons on the wheel for upfitting controls.

Feniex offers a cencom style controls and can use normal switches in addition to the touch screen

Ok, I took a few pictures through the expo hall during the conference. No close ups but here are a couple photos of the Feniex demo Explorer.

It would look a lot better with booth babes, what kind of sales rep doesn't hire off duty pole dancers to bring in the marks? "Hi, I'm Kitty, check out our flashers and bulbs. I'm compatible with ANY interface, and can synchronize with Mistee for a slight upcharge"

+1,000,000 and I'm sure almost everyone here has the proper connector for either Kitty or Mistee
