NYPD Interceptor/Fusion NEW ESCAPE

Is it just me or does that lightbar on that Ford look f**king HIGH up off the roof? Like waay too much space between the roof and lightbar?

It's not just you, that looks ridiculous and obviously due to all the add ons.. Riser and MB... Who got paid to spec and approve this... I'd imagine it doubles as a howler at highway speed..?.. :duh: :bonk: :suicide:

Any RMP with 'riser' bars has the primary lightbar mounted extra high so it can be seen from the rear above the 'risers'

looked up some pics and you are right.... 5736610825_d6eebb1c3f_z.jpg

But that Taurus just looks extra goofy with it for some reason. The Crown Vic and Charger in the pics don't look half as bad with raised lightbars.

Probably because it's taller than the usual CV... It does look like a brick ... A pretty nice brick, mind you..

At least on the Vic and Charger the plane is correct, on the "don't call it a Taurus", the angle looks off, the warning given off is going above the vehicles in front of the approaching unit, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the bar light in the first place. To spend that kind of coin on a premium setup, only to have it less than an optimal installation is what has me banging my head on the desk.

I can only imagine what the cabin noise level is like at highway speed with that debacle on the roof.

I think the NYPD does some pretty ridiculous things. Who makes these decisions??

It looks like it's a result of the roof line of the Taurus. The CV and Charger roofs are much more close to parallel with the ground. The Taurus' roof drops off towards the windshield, and the roof as a whole is much more aggressively angled in general.

From my own experience it was rarely someone who had to live with those decisions.

Maybe you misunderstood me...Sorry.. These Cars are not "Suited" for patrol vehicles is what i meant by them being used for patrol.
As far as the fusion hybrids, hit about 70 75 on highway and the car started to sputter as if it was switching between engines, and then just stalled out.... Not very reliable seeing how they get beat on. Some that are less than 1 year old have had numerous problems, all the seats are ripped and the cars are in the shop alot.

hahaha I'd like to see a NYPD police car do 70-75 mph through the city streets..(thinks of what the body count would be in times square) The last time i was in NYC the interstate speed limit was 35mph, from the airport to manchester..

The cab drivers are harder on their cabs than the PD are on their units, arent they? Cabbies have been using hybrids for some time, and they are QUICK and responcive.. Fusion Hybrid. 0-60: 9.3 Seconds. Toyota HyCam . 0-60 Time: 7.6 Seconds.. Our dept has been using some unmarked Hybrids since 2005..

Remembers back when a local department replaced thier fleet with Celebrity Diesels.. :duh: thier saving grace was the 78 malibu with a 350cid. ;)

Street speed limits are 30mph (but people regularly go 45-50mph on many streets) in NYC... Parkway speed limits are 50mph but people regularly go 65-75mph on these roads.

Some highways like the FDR drive are 40mph. But again, people regularly go 60-70mph + on these types of roads.

It's about time they went back with a REAL police car, not some Nissan hybrid.

I couldn't see in the vid, but are they skimping out on rear deck lights now? It'd be nice if they started adding some sort of intersection warning, as they have done with the Chevy and Ford vans a little while back. And, if they're cutting it that close on their budget, then Maybe they should stop wasting so much money on decking out NYPD Traffic vehicles; I see absolutely no reason for traffic vehicles to have virtually all of the same bells and whistles as NYPD RMPs.

Ever since the 1991-era bathtub Caprices ended, I've always hated the Chevy platform for their sedan police cars. The Tahoe PPV's are great, but the Impalas are cramped and breakable. The new Caprice PPV's aren't something I've dealt with, but I'm glad to see that the NYPD is getting more Fords. I've always believed that Ford made some of the most dependable police cars in existence, so I hope these new Interceptors live up to my belief.

I haven't seen these videos before but I've seen this particular Taurus in person. Looks aggressive on the street. Definitely one of their best looking RMPs....

+1!!!! And for that matter, they should go back to being black vehicles instead of having the same paint scheme as the RMPs.... But that's another story.

As far as rear deck lighting, they are still using Dual Vipers for the rear decks on all their cars as far as I know. This one has them too. But as far as side lighting, I think the lightbar on the roof does a good job of that. Its their unmarked cars that could use some side lighting.

The "Cop Shot" tip line and reward sticker dates back from 1991 when a campaign was launched after a Brooklyn detective had been shot to death. It was supposed to last for a while... I guess it worked better than expected.

Havent seen the vids, but Saw one on SI yesterday. The 122 has one, along with those new Fusions. The Interceptor is definately a nice, and mean looking car. Pretty roomy inside, and i like the handling, and how it feels. Hopefully it will not be like our 2012 fusions, which all have ripped, and torn seats and destroyed already... Lets see how they last..

Patrol has the regular non turbo (smaller engine) where highway has the turbo, or twin turbo package, or whatever it is...

HWY 2 Has them, as well as HWY 5...

I don't see how it matters "professionally" how many different types of cars you have on your force.

After all, they all carry the same color scheme with NYPD graphics. I think that is all that matters.

I think it goes back a little further than 1991, the private/express New York Bus Company owner sponsors/sponsored the program

Those bumper stickers make a nice brand new police vehicle look tacky !!! whats up with that?

That's standard on all cars, reward for shooting a cop and PAL

Lol im sorry i had to laugh at that... i think the reward is for someone who gives a tip that helps the police catch a cop killer.... not for actually shooting a cop...

I just love the cupholder, i dont Elbow my drink like i used to 4 times a tour.. :( but these cars are much nicer, and look mean as hell, i also cant complain about the New Fusions, I drove one on the 4th Of July, my Pct got loaned like 6-8 of them. Nice inside, and i liked the back seats how they were designed.

Iceman, excellent pictures, one thing I like about this new car is the gear shift is now behind the steering wheel compare to the previous fusion that had it in the center console. IMO it allows it to have more space.

I like the nice new modern and thick steering wheel. The Crown Vics is a lot thinner. Not to mention how much nicer electric assist steering is compared to the old and dated 1980's hydraulic steering in the Crown Vic. So much play and wobble....not anymore in the Interceptor, the steering is very crisp and responsive !!!! Like night and day driving these new cars.

So I ran into a new PI last night in midtown as I was walking to the train. Seems like they did keep the rear dual Vipers. But there are two major problems in my eyes: No cage and poor LAW placement. Observe:

What do u mean poor LAW placement? They are factory installed. Some cars have cages some don't. Dont know who decides what.

I mean that LAW's only work well with some sort of reflector. In the new Interceptor, the only good place to put them is in the turn signal housing. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the NYPD decided to do that. And cars without cages make me uncomfortable.

NYPD didnt do it, Ford did it. That is the factory LAW location in the Interceptor Sedan. If you order any of the various Sedan and Utility packages that require lighting or pre-drilled holes, that is where they will be.

I meant in addition to the pre-drilled holes. They do a *lot* of post-factory work.
